Today I want to share with you the creation of this educational project for my nephew's school, where the activity is called "Playing with My Name and Letters: We Will Be Little Entrepreneurs." The goal is for the children to recognize and identify the letters of their name and the alphabet. The teacher sent an example, and we used that as a guide. It doesn't necessarily have to be exactly as she indicated, so I looked for ideas online for inspiration—not to make it exactly the same, but to use it as a starting point. I came across a picture of a rocket, which I thought was super cute and quite creative, so I got to work.
-Cardboard, it can be a box or 1 kg cardboard
-Paint, it can be cold paint or in my case, I used acrylics that I bought in a small bottle and they gave a nice finish.

STEP 1: Cut out the rocket shape and paint it.
At this point, I made some sketches (I didn't take a picture) and looked for suggestions in the AI. It described what else I could do, and I got to work. I took a cardboard box; unfortunately, I didn't have a large one, so I joined pieces of a small one. I only made the body part, since I would make the wings and the little flame separately.

Once the rocket shape was ready, I proceeded to paint it, but I realized that the paint didn't adhere very well. Therefore, I had to cover it with white bond paper, first the top part, which is where the colors would be. The center would remain white, and I glued the bond paper to that area last. If your cardboard absorbs paint well, meaning it soaks up paint easily, I don't think all of this is necessary. Or, you could buy colored cardstock and simply glue it on.
For the rocket parts that the AI provided, which were gray and shiny, I had planned to use tape, but I didn't have any in the right color and I didn't have enough. So, I cut a piece of gray cardstock I had and glued glitter to it. I added a light-up section to the fins to give them that cartoonish style, and I also painted a black border on them, very similar to the image the AI gave me.
Step 2: Creating the letters of the name AARON.
Here, I should mention that I didn't take accurate measurements of the area where each letter of my nephew's name would go, so they took up more space than anticipated, but you'll see how I solved that later. To make the letters, I first made a paper template, then transferred it to cardstock, glued it to an old folder I had to make them sturdier, and painted them. I did the same thing I did with the spoilers: a white highlight, using a white acrylic marker, and a black outline.
Step 3: Creating the vowel A.
Upon reviewing the reference image, I realized I still needed to complete the rocket's window display, which would feature the first letter of my nephew's name—in this case, the vowel "A." I took a circular container, cut it out of cardboard, covered it with two layers of blue crepe paper, and added brushstrokes of dark blue paint for texture. I also added a dark blue marker border and some white dots to simulate screws.
Next, I proceeded with the vowel, tracing it onto cardboard as well. I covered it with white paper, and since I got hold of some metallic paper, I covered it with that too, as the aluminum foil I had didn't work. To give it a more professional touch, I used gold ribbon and placed it all around the edge of the vowel; I think it made it stand out much more.
Ah, at this point, I added the bond paper to the area of the rocket that was missing. There were some smudges there, but since the other elements would cover them, I wasn't worried.
Step 4: Cutting circles for the shapes.
Before we get to the title of this interactive sheet, let's call it that, I wondered how I could represent images of things that begin with the letter A, so I used two different materials (it's what I had): foam and cardstock, cutting them into circles. The rocket was already taking shape. As for the figures of a bee, an airplane, and blueberries, I didn't take pictures while making them because it was at night, I was tired, and I didn't want to use my phone anymore. Even so, you'll see them in the step of putting all this crazy stuff together.
Step 5: Creating the title.
I already knew the title had to go on top of the rocket, supported by sticks, because I didn't want to cover up the beautiful shape it was turning out. I cut a rectangular piece of cardboard, and on separate pieces of paper, I wrote the words "Hello, my name is Aaron" in different ways, because I'm not confident enough to do it directly. However, I wanted the "Aaron" to stand out more, so I took some blue crepe paper and started making little balls and gluing them on. Then, I glued Aaron's name on top, and I loved how it looked with the different textures I added to each letter.
However, when I don't like something, when it doesn't quite fit, I prefer to do it again, because that blank area where "Hello, my name is" was supposed to be... I don't know, I felt it harmonized with the rocket, even though my sister told me she liked it, I didn't. So, I took the crepe paper again, this time red, and covered the rest of the area that wasn't blue, painted the letters again, and glued them on, resulting in this:
Step 6: Painting the rocket's fire and other details.
Here I decided to make the rocket's flames. Just like with the rocket's shape and fins, I cut out a piece of cardboard, this time a thinner one because my hands couldn't handle it anymore, and I covered it with paper. I used acrylic paints, pastel chalks, and markers to create the colors of the flames and also to outline them in black.
Once I had the fire lit, I cut out Aaron's name again from black foam, but this time with glitter. This is because it needs to be divided into syllables, which helps with rhythm recognition: clapping for each syllable; identifying the structure: differentiating how many parts his name has; and developing phonological awareness: understanding that words are put together like "pieces of a puzzle." To separate them correctly, something like the example image the teacher sent, I would use yellow tape instead of enclosing the syllables with a marker.
Finally, to complete the rocket, since I didn't have time to finish it, came the bookmark that would say the sentence: "What things begin with A?" Using textured foam, I shaped it like an arrow and just wrote it directly on it, but as always, highlighting the vowel A, adding white glue and red glitter on top.
Step 7: Assemble all the pieces of our interactive rocket.
You might think this step was easy for me, but I complicate everything. The letters A-A-R-Ó-N didn't fit in the white area of the rocket, so something I often do in my projects is fold it up. I always make accordion folds, but here I used cardboard tubes to arrange the letters in a zigzag pattern. The dividing line, the hyphen that separates them, was glued on without folding it up, and everything fit. In the image I'm showing you below, I think you can see what I'm explaining a little better. Oh, by the way, I had my sister cut out star shapes to mark that the name has five letters. Next to the letters, I put a star to indicate that and glued it onto a popsicle stick to make it stand out.
Now came the shapes that begin with A. Instead of just gluing them onto the circular foam shapes and calling it a day, I decided to do more and wanted something interactive. So, the shapes would rotate, like the hands of a clock. To create that effect, I took a piece of cardstock, rolled it up, and glued it behind the shape. I made a hole in the circular shapes, just big enough for the cardboard tube to rotate without gluing it. I couldn't just glue the circles onto the rocket like that, because the shape wouldn't rotate. So, just like with the letters, I attached little tubes to the back of them and lifted them up.
After gluing the shapes, the syllable division of the name, along with the yellow tape and the blue arrow, it was time to glue on the title. Here, my little dog provided moral support to ensure everything went well. Since I didn't have any tall sticks, I used a plastic stick, one of those that come with helium balloons. I broke it in two, glued the two halves first to the rocket, reinforcing them with tape, and then glued the sign to the same ends.

This isn't the end of it. Something I didn't think about and didn't do at the beginning was how I would carry it and display it. I thought about making it like a backpack, that is, putting two straps on the back so I could carry it. Ah, but I didn't do that at first. Plus, it was difficult to get it to stick and be reinforced. The weight on top makes it move a little. I fixed it with tape and it's more stable now. Even so, I feel I could have done a better job from the beginning, before gluing everything together.
Result….

Hoy quiero compartirles la elaboración de este proyecto didáctico para la escuela de mi sobrino, en donde la actividad consiste en “Jugando con Mi nombre y letras seremos los pequeños emprendedores.” Y el objetivo es que los niños reconozcan e identifiquen las letras de su nombre y abecedario. La maestra mando un ejemplo y de ahí uno se guiaba para hacerlo, no necesariamente tiene que ser como lo indica ella, por lo que busque ideas en internet para inspirarme, no hacerlo igual, pero si apoyarme en ello, topándome con la imagen de un cohete, que me pareció super hermoso y bastante creativo, así que, puse manos a la obra.
-Cartón, puede ser caja o cartón 1 en kilo
-Pintura, puede ser al frio o en mi caso, usé unas acrílicas que compré en mango bajito y dieron un acabado bonito.
-Tizas.
-Marcadores, si son de acrílicos y alcohol mejor.
-Lápices de colores.
-Papel.
-Cartulina.
-Papel aluminio.
-Papel crepe, del color que deseen.
-Escarcha.
-Foami.
-Palos de altura o cualquier palo plástico.
-Cordones.
-Cinta.
-Pega blanca.
-Silicón caliente o fría.
-Tijeras.
-Regla.
PASO 1: Corte de la forma del cohete y pintarlo.
En este punto, hice unos bocetos (no tomé foto) y busque sugerencias en la IA, me describia que más podia hacer y puse mano a la obra. Tomé una caja de cartón, lamentablemente no tenia una grande, así que uní pedazos de una pequeña; solo hice la parte del cuerpo, ya que lo que son los alerones y el fueguito lo haría aparte.

Al tener listo la forma del cohete, procedí a pintarlo, pero me di cuenta que no agarra muy bien el color de la pintura, por lo que tuve que forrarlo de papel bond blanco, primero la parte de arriba, que son los que llevarían colores, en el centro estaría blanco, dejando el pegado del papel bond en esa zona de ultimo. Si su cartón absorbe bien la pintura, es decir, se pimenta bien, creo que no es necesario todo esto que hice o, podrían comprar cartulinas de colores y bueno solo lo pegan.
Para la parte de uniones de las piezas del cohete, que la IA me la dio, así como en color gris y brillante, tenía pensada usar una cinta, pero no tenia ni del color y no me alcanzaba. Por lo que, recurrí a cortar una cartulina gris que tenia y pegarle escarcha. A los alerones le agregue una parte de luz, para darle ese estilo caricaturesco, además de pintarle un borde negro, muy similar a la imagen que me dio la IA.
Paso 2: Elaboración de las letras del nombre AARÓN.
Aquí, debo acotar, que no tomé bien las medidas del área donde iría cada letra del nombre de mi sobrino, por lo que ocupaban mas de lo que se prevenía, pero ya verán más adelante como lo solventé. Para hacer las letras, primero hice un molde en papel, luego la pase a la cartulina, la pegué en una carpeta vieja que tenía, para que fuesen más duritas y las pinté; hice lo mismo que como los alerones, una luz blanca, apoyándome del marcador acrílico blanco y un borde en negro.
Paso 3: Elaboración de la vocal A.
Al volver a visualizar la imagen de referencia, me faltaba hacer la parte como de la venta del cohete, que tendría la letra con que comienza el nombre de mi sobrino, en este caso es la vocal “A”. Tomé un pote circular, lo saque en un cartón, lo forre de pale crepé azul, dos capas y le di pinceladas de pintura azul oscura, para generar más textura, además de un borde en marcador azul oscuro y unos puntos en blanco, simulando los tornillos.
Luego, procedí con la vocal, sacándola igualmente en un cartón, la forré de papel blanco y como me conseguí un papel metalizado, lo forré de ese mismo, ya que el papel aluminio que tenia no me funcionó. Para darle, un toque más pro, usé una cinta dorada y se la puse en todo el borde de la vocal, creo que la hizo resaltar mucho más.
Ah, en este punto, ya le añadí el papel bond a la zona que me faltaba del cohete, hubo unos manchones ahí, pero como lo taparían los demás elementos, no me preocupé.
Paso 4: Corte de círculos para las figuras.
Antes de ir con el titulo de esa lamina interactiva, vamos a decirle así, me pregunté cómo podrían las imágenes de las cosas que comienzan con la vocal A, por lo que tomé 2 materiales distintos (es lo que tenía) foami y cartulina, cortándolos en círculos. Ya aquí el cohete estaba agarrando mucha más forma. Las figuras que fueron una abeja, una avión y arándonos, pues no tomé foto del momento de hacerlas, porque fue en la noche, ya estaba cansada y no quería agarrar más mi celular, aun así, las verán en el paso de armar todo esta locura.
Paso 5: Elaboración del título.
Ya aquí sabia que el titulo debía ir arriba del cohete, con unos palitos que lo soportaran, pues no quería tapar la forma tan bonita que me estaba quedando; corté un cartón en forma rectangular, en unos papeles aparte, hice las palabras “Hola me llamo Aarón” en distintas maneras, porque no me tengo la suficiente confianza para hacerlo directamente. No obstante, el “Aarón quería que resaltara más, por lo que agarré un papel crepe azul, y empecé hacer bolitas y pegarlas y sobre eso, pego el nombre de Aarón, que me encantó como quedó con las diferentes texturas que le hice a cada letra.
Sin embargo, cuando algo no me gusta, no me cuadra, prefiero hacerlo nuevamente, porque esa zona en blanco donde iban el Hola me llamo, no sé, sentía que armonizaba con el cohete, aunque mi hermana me dijera que le gustaba, a mi no. Por lo que, volví a tomar el papel crepé, esta vez de color rojo y forré el resto de la zona que no tenia azul, pinté nuevamente las letras y las pegué, quedando de esta forma:
Paso 6: Pintando el fuego del cohete y demás detalles.
Aquí ya me propuse hacer el fuego del cohete, igualmente como con las formas del cohete y los alerones, corte en un cartón, esta vez uno más finito, porque ya mis manos no aguantaban y lo forré de papel. Me apoyé en las pinturas acrílicas, en las tizas pastel y en los marcadores, para hacer los colores del fuego e igualmente realizarme su contorno en negro.
Al tener el fueguito, corté nuevamente el nombre de Aarón en un foami negro, pero con brillantina, esto porque el mismo se debe mostrar dividido silábicamente, esto ayuda a reconocer el ritmo: Al dar aplausos por cada sílaba; identificar la estructura: Diferenciar cuántas partes tiene su nombre y generar conciencia fonológica: Entender que las palabras se arman como "piezas de un rompecabezas". Para separarlas correctamente, algo como la imagen de ejemplo que mandó la maestra, me ayudaría de una cinta amarilla, en vez de encerrarla las silabas con marcador.
Por ultimo y así poder armar todo el cohete, ya que no me quedaba tiempo de terminarlo, venia el señalador que diría la oración: que cosas comienzan con A; usando un foami con textura, le di la forma de una flecha y solo escribí directamente ahí, pero como siempre, resaltando la vocal A, poniéndole pega blanca y escarcha roja encima.
Paso 7: Armar todas las piezas de nuestro cohete interactivo.
Pensarían que este paso se me fue fácil, pero yo me complico toda, las letras A-A-R-Ó-N no entraban en la zona blanca del cohete, por lo que algo que hago muchos en los trabajos, es levantarla, siempre hago acordeones, sin embargo, aquí recurrí a tubitos de cartulina, y así poner las letras en zigzag y la división, es decir, el guion que las divide, pues si pegarlo sin levantarlo, así entraría todo, en la imagen que le muestro a continuación, creo que se aprecia un poco mejor lo que estoy explicando. Ah por cierto, hice que mi hermana cortara las figuras de unas estrellas, para marcar que el nombre tiene cinco letras, a la lados de las letras, le puse una estrella que indicaba eso y la pegue sobre una paleta, para hacerlo resaltar.
Ahora venia las figuras que comienzan con A, yo en vez de pegarlas ya en las formas circulas de foami y listo, pues no, yo me impongo más trabajo y quería que tuviese algo interactivo y si, las figuras darían vueltas, como las manillas de un reloj. Para hacer ese efecto, tome una cartulina, la enrolle y la pegue detrás de la figura; a las formas circulares le abrí un hueco, lo suficiente para que el tubito de cartulina pudiera dar vuelta, sin pegarlo ni nada. Aquí no podía pegar los círculos en el cohete así por así, ya que no daría vueltas la figura, por lo que, así como las letras, le puse tubitos en la parte de atrás y levantarlas.
Al pegar las figuras, la división en silabas del nombre, en conjunto a la cinta amarilla y la flecha azul, tocaba pegar el título, aquí mi perrito me hizo apoyo moral para que todo saliera bien. Como no tenia palitos de altura, recurrí a un palo plástico, de esos que traen los globos helios, lo partí en dos, los pegué primero al cohete, reforzándolas con cinta y luego pegué el cartel en los mismos.

Aquí no termina todo, algo que no pensé y que no hice al inicio, fue el cómo se lo llevaría y lo pondría para exponerlo, por lo que se me ocurría hacerlo como mochila, es decir, ponerle dos cintas atrás y que lo cargara, ah, pero no lo hice en un inicio, aunado que costó que pegara y quedara reforzado, el peso de arriba hace que se mueva un poco, lo solventé con cinta y se estabiliza, aun así, siento que pude resolverlo mejor en un inicio, antes de pegarle todo.
Resultado….
Y este fue todo el resultado, a mi sobrino le encantó, estaba muy emocionado y ustedes, ¿qué opinan? ¿Cómo me quedó? ¿y qué pude mejorarle?
