Hello, community. A few months ago I planted an oregano plant in my house. I used a plastic ice cream container as a pot to contribute to reuse and save a little money. My plant is small since I have it in a shallow container, when I transplant it into the ground it can reach up to one and a half meters in height. Oregano leaves are used as a condiment both fresh and dried, and the latter have much more flavor and aroma. In Cuba it is common in many homes for people to have this plant both in pots and in the ground and the sale of its dry leaves to be used as a condiment is common. But in addition to this use, oregano infusion is commonly consumed by a large part of the population, especially when they have respiratory conditions. Due to its properties, oregano infusion is antioxidant, antimicrobial, antitumor, antiseptic, tonic, digestive and is used in the treatment of diabetes. Below I show you how I prepare the oregano infusion.


Ingredients

  1. 6 small oregano leaves
  2. 100 milliliters of water
  3. 3 teaspoons of sugar


Preparation

  1. Wash the leaves.
  2. Heat the water. When it reaches the boiling point, add the oregano leaves.
  3. Heat for two more minutes, remove from heat and let infuse for 5 more minutes.
  4. Strain the infusion.
  5. Add the sugar and stir.




I also have another variety of this plant, the earth oregano, which I planted in a plastic knob that was previously filled with water. This variety is also used as a condiment or to prepare tea and has a stronger smell. Thank you for reading and grow your plants for infusion!

Hola, comunidad. Hace unos meses sembré una planta de orégano en mi casa. Utilicé como maceta un embase plástico que fue de helado para así contribuir a la reutilización y ahorrarme un poquito dinero. Mi planta es pequeña ya que la tengo en un recipiente poco profundo, cuando la trasplante hacia la tierra puede alcanzar hasta el metro y medio de altura. Las hojas del orégano se utilizan como condimento tanto frescas como secas, y éstas últimas poseen mucho más sabor y aroma. En Cuba es común en muchísimos hogares que las personas tengan esta planta tanto en macetas como en tierra y la venta de sus hojas secas para ser usadas como condimento es habitual. Pero además de este uso, la infusión de orégano es de consumo habitual por gran parte de la población especialmente cuando poseen afecciones respiratorias. Por sus propiedades la infusión de orégano es antioxidante, antimicrobiana, antitumoral, antiséptico, tónica, digestiva y se emplea en el tratamiento de la diabetes. A continuación les muestro como preparo la infusión de orégano.


Ingredientes

  1. 6 hojas pequeñas de orégano
  2. 100 mililitros de agua
  3. 3 cucharaditas de azúcar


Preparación

  1. Lavar las hojas.
  2. Poner a calentar el agua. Cuando alcance el punto de ebullición añadirle las hojas de orégano.
  3. Calentador por dos minutos más, retirar del fuego y dejar infusionar por 5 minutos más.
  4. Colar la infusión.
  5. Añadir el azúcar y revolver.
También tengo otra variedad de esta planta, el orégano de la tierra, el cual sembré en un pomo plástico que anteriormente era de agua. Esta variedad también se emplea como condimento o para preparar té y posee un olor más fuerte. ¡Gracias por leer y cultiven sus plantas para infusión!

In Venezuela, it's common to find that oregano plant in many houses. However, "small oregano" is a different thing here: it's the kind we use for cooking, like in tomato sauce for pasta, for example. Anyway, your infusion looks really tempting. Cheers! ❤️

My mother used to give us this infusion because she said that oregano was miraculous and she was right, it improved us 1000%.
