They may be concerned if you have anything to give them confidence on your future. What I mean is having some financial security or doing things that could secure your future. This involves having life insurance, having a job or business, and basically a life plan where they don't have to bail you out if things get rough. I think any responsible parent would want to see their children has a plan in life even without marriage in mind.
