Intense eagerness and the rest is history

Today I am commencing my writing with the story of a passionate person. It would be wrong to tell it a story, it is a reality. His name is Polan Sarkar. He was born on 9 September 1921 in Natore, Bangladesh and expired on 1 March 2019. In spite of his strong desire in life, he could not study in his early age due to financial drawbacks. But that desire was secretly alive in some corner of his mind. That was probably waiting for the favorable environment and opportunity to blossom. At one point in his life, the doctor told him that he had a high risk of developing diabetes. So, if he wants to prevent diabetes, he has to walk for a long time every day. Later, as there was no alternative, he took the disease as an opportunity.

Polan Shrkar started to walk. There are many diabetics patients in this world and they walk every day. Polan Sarkar didn’t want to be like others, he was trying to be different. So, he thought that he will walk more then 4 miles a day and on his way he would distribute books to people. Although, Polan Sarkar could not study at his early age, later he made himself skilled through self studies. He also bought many books and kept in his personal collection. Finally, he made up his mind to distribute those books to the people who cannot afford to buy. His aim was to spread knowledge to others as he is well aware that how it feels when someone can’t afford to buy books. So, he continued his good deed and the rest is history. He was later awarded the Ekushey Padak, one of the most prestigious awards in Bangladesh. Polan Sarker has proved today that people can be educated in the light of education without knowing how to read, only need to have a strong desire.

The above fact proves that human age cannot be a barrier to any work. Many people have climbed Mount Everest in old age which was quite unimaginable. Many blind people have studied only with their mental strength and became great teachers and made history. They have overcome physical disabilities with mental strength. Only human beings can do which is not possible for any other creature. That is why human is the best creature in the world.

I also came to know about a person who used to plant trees in the two sides of highways. He thought when people will walk through this highway, they will find shade from these trees and feel comfortable. He did this huge task with his own expenses. This is another example of humanity and good deeds which can only be done by enlightened people.

Are we thinking like this or always busy with our personal interest? We are a part of this society. If we don’t take care of it, nobody will come and fix the problems. The problem is we all think someone is there who will do the social works voluntarily. Eventually, it is observed that there are few people around us who actually think about the common people and the society. If we all do a single good task everyday, our word could have been a better place now. Or in other words, if we can’t do good, at least we should stop doing harm to the society. That will be also good. So, let’s do at least a single good task everyday and be a part of enlightened people.

He was the virtuous man in the country. I do not wish that every people become Polan Sarkar but a few should be like him. Otherwise, it will be difficult to redeem society.
