Rooftop gardening can be a good project in urban civilization

in BDCommunity4 years ago

Hello friends, Hope you all are well and getting prepared for weekend.

Rooftop gardens have added a new dimension to our urban civilization. Many people are interested in rooftop gardening for their own needs and for eating chemical-free vegetables. Not only vegetables, many people are cultivating different types of fruits and flowers in the roof garden. So the rooftop garden has inevitably opened a new door of possibility. I will share some pictures of vegetables and fruits from my roof garden throughout this post.

Gradually our beloved city of Dhaka is shrinking. Everyone is just building tall buildings for business needs and in the hope of making more profit. People are constructing new buildings without keeping minimum distance. Far from having a place to make a garden, there is not even a little place for children to play. Therefore, rooftop gardening is the only solution for planting vegetable and fruit trees.

Another beneficial aspect of the rooftop garden is that we can get chemical free vegetables and fruits from here. The way unscrupulous businessman mixing formalin and other pesticides in fruits and vegetables, no one really knows at what rate chemicals are entering our bodies every day.

Formalin is commonly used to keep a variety of vegetables and fruits fresh longer. It has many harmful effects on the human body. If the formalin stays in close contact with the human body for a long time, there is a possibility of getting cancer. If formalin can cause cancer on the outside of the body, you can easily understand how harmful it can be if it is swallowed inside our body.

Anyway, I have a small rooftop garden. There I grow a variety of vegetables, fruits and flowers. Because of this coronavirus pandemic and lockdown, this rooftop garden is the only place where I can breathe. Among the vegetables I have here is Puishak (Basella alba), Lalshak (red leafy vegetables) and Laushak. The vegetables meet my daily needs and I get chemical free vegetables from here. My roof garden has several lemon trees and pepper trees. In addition, there are several mango trees.

However roof gardening can turn into a profitable business. I did my rooftop garden as a hobby but now I am getting fresh vegetables from here. Many are using the rooftop garden as a part of their business. Different organizations are helping a lot in this regard. So, if you have a small rooftop garden or even you live in a rented house you can grow some vegetables on your roof. It will give you financial benefits as well as entertainment in your mind. Because nature always gives joy to people.

Thanks.

Stay safe and healthy.
