Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the final squad for the two-match Test series against Afghanistan. The ODI series will start from January 23 in Chittagong. After that, two T20 matches will be held on March 3 and 5 in Dhaka. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 14-member squad for the two matches. Yasir Ali and Munim Shahriar are the new faces in the team formed under the leadership of Mahmudullah Riyad.
Munim Shahriar played for Fortune Barisal. Munim Shahriar played really well for Fortune Barisal in the eighth edition of the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). In the opening slot with Chris Gayle who is one of the best batsmen in the world, Munim has put a lot of shelves. Cricket fans are fascinated by his fearless batting. The 23-year-old batsman, who has scored 178 runs in six matches, had a strike rate of over 150+.
Bangladesh team management has always felt the lack of someone like him in the top order. This time maybe that regret will go away. Also Yasir Ali played really well for Khulna Tigers in this BPL season. He played in 11 matches at a strike rate of nearly 140 and scored 219 vital runs. Liton Das is also returning to the team. He was dropped form the team due to bad performance in T-20 World Cup last year. However, due to his performance in the BPL with Cumilla Victorians, he is listed to the T20 squad against the Afghans. Shakib Al Hasan was excellent throughout the whole BPL season & he won the MAN OF THE TOURNAMENT award of BPL-2022. Also Bangladeshi best bowler Mustafiz played outstandingly well & he is the highest wicket taker with 19 wickets. Musfiz, Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain was the regular performer throughout the whole season. So, they are auto-choice for the T-20 squad against Afghanistan.
But there is some bad news for some other players. Out of the 14-man squad, six have been dropped from the squad announced for the last Pakistan series. They are Saif Hasan, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Aminul Islam Biplob, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Shamim Patwari and Akbar Ali. They played very bad in recent BPL. Nurul Hasan Sohan only scored 93 runs in his last nine T-20 innings. Shamim Patwari also flop with bat. That’s why they are out of the squad.
