Act Within Time.

Self-awareness often comes to us the hard way. If we look around at ourselves we would find too many vulnerabilities. If proper steps aren't taken at the right time then we would find ourselves at loss and pay the penalty for sure. So did I yesterday. I was ignoring one of the vulnerabilities I have found and I was postponing it due to my busyness. Actually, due to my ignorance, I won't lie.

So what happened is that my hard disk is dead with no backup. Actually, this one was from my old pc which was almost eight years old and I was using it as additional storage with my SSD. That old disk had our family memories, old videos, and so many important things. I was a fool to use it for my recent files too, I was just using the SSD for boot and installation purposes and the other one as storage. Dumb me!

For the past few days, it was showing minor problems and I ignored it. I couldn't think enough that it might get corrupted, on one thought I was thinking of purchasing new additional storage but hadn't anticipated that the existing one would be dead this soon after warning.

Nowadays the storage drives come with long longevity, if you are using a recent one then you shouldn't worry much, still, it's an electronic device, getting corrupted is not an out-of-the-world thought to worry about. And if you are using old storage, replace it, keep a backup. Trust me, it hurts when you will lose all your data, all your memories. It's not like," it got corrupted, let's buy a new one." no-no-no, it's not that simple. Things that are lost with the component are beyond purchasing.

Lemme give you an idea of the loss I have taken. First of all the emotional ones, as this one is 8 years old so it had many old photos and videos of my friends and families of this long journey. Ok, let's keep this aside. Now move on to the real losses, I had my assignments saved here, though I have submitted them to the respective authorities still I lost my copy. I had important notes on my ongoing courses and course-related materials, and the most important one is a few pdf of backup keys to many services I use. I don't care much about the other songs, movies, or software that I can easily get if needed. But those three things I mentioned are hurting me and gonna pay me for this careless act. I have to go through them again and create new files to keep me safe.

I have tried to fix it on my own, by basic cleaning and steps like this. I am thinking of taking it to a nearby tech specialist if they can help restore that data, it would save a lot of work for me.

So the main reason for this was to remind you guys to stay alert in these scenarios. Keep a backup of your important files in case you lose them. Prevention is always better than cure.

Sorry about the loss. I lost some good photos to such an incident. Do you consider cloud storage?
