Reptile Litter

Dear Hiveans!

Today I accidentally met one of the reptiles hiding in large rocks on the edge of the rock barrier against the waves or soil abrasion barrier which is located next to the sea water barrier on the shore of our village.

Like the incident two days ago I found a blue dragonfly that was sick but today I found a brown lizard that sprouted behind a large rock or the location of the saltwater lizard nest.

As far as I know, this lizard is called the "Brown Litter Lizard" which lives and thrives near human homes, where there are lots of shrubs so that is where the nest is located.

Litter Lizard

As we all know, this lizard is what some experts call "Eutropis Rudis" which comes from the Scincidae family or a kind of family. These lizards include lizards that live close to humans, such as garden lizards. Brown lizard lizards are widespread in Indonesia, such as:

  1. Sumatera island
  2. Mentawai Island
  3. Java island
  4. Kalimantan island
  5. and several other islands within the territory of Indonesia.

To find it is also not difficult, in the province of Aceh it is very often in every pile of rubbish or in areas where wild bushes are located.
But he is very difficult to approach because he is very sensitive to the presence of humans, meaning not tame, when a suspicious movement is seen he will immediately run at a sharp speed and hide behind the bushes.

The special characteristic of litter kadal (lizards) serasah

Every animal that lives on this earth certainly has different characteristics from each species, as well as lizards, lizards also have many species that have a variety of different characters, then how about the lizards of serasah?

As far as I can see, this litter lizard is a type of four-legged reptile. The reptile is very agile and a little fat, when seen by its head as if it is attached to a solid neck, the cross section of its body looks rectangular. The total length is approx. 22 cm, about 60% of the tail and sometimes a size larger than the described description.

The litter lizard that you see in this post, has a copper-golden brown upper body, there are blackish patches on the edges of the scales that form an elongated pattern that blurred dotted, if it is in sun exposure then the light or flashes of its body will sparkle so it is very easy to detect its presence.

The serasah lizards of habits

This lizard has different habits from some other reptile animals, it really likes bushes and grass and usually stays in locations that have lots of garbage piles, both in the open and protected by trees. His habit is very often sunbathing in the morning on open paths or on the cover of sewerage ditches, ditches, or on rice fields. They are also said to be diurnal animals that are active during the day in search of food in their lives. When it enters the night, this lizard sleeps under a layer of trash or on a thick pile of grass.

It does not make sounds like other reptiles such as lizards or snakes, but it has its own technique for calling out its flock or partner when it comes to mating in certain seasons.

The food

This litter is classified as a meat-eating or cold-blooded animal, it will always hunt every animal that has a body that is smaller than its body size, such as:

  1. Toads
  2. Worms
  3. Geckos
  4. and other reptile species that are smaller than that.

Types of food mentioned above if they live in land areas or far from rivers or sea banks, but if the Lizard serasah live in coastal areas, they really like to consume animals such as:

  1. Small fish
  2. Mud worms (Kup'reit)
  3. River bank biota
  4. Little snake
  5. and several animal species that play by the sea including small crabs.

He is also often the object of prey by large meat-eating seagulls, and he is also often preyed on by large snakes, lizards and other reptiles that live in one location with them.

Those are some explanations about Litter Lizard or trash lizard that is often found in our own area. Hopefully helpful, and thank you.
