When I stepped off of the platform and onto the train, my mind was focused on the people in front of me and taking the metrocard out of my wallet to validate my journey, so the sensation of a fine wet mist landing on my right cheek came as somewhat of a surprise, to say the least!
I turned around, looking for the source and saw a few falling rain drops contrasted against the darkened evening sky above me through the metre wide gap between the train and the roof of train station shelter, and not someone sneezing on me.
This reminded me of a hilarious viral TikTok video here.
There’s a bit of swearing, but that’s where the humour is.
I settled down in my train seat as the rain continued. It was only a light rain and thankfully only lasted long enough for me to get this photo:
Thirty minutes later I was catching a tram and using it’s onboard WiFi to double check directions.
It had been a while since I’d been into the city of Adelaide, but I was looking forward to catching up with some friends for an “off the book” meeting of the minds, so to speak. For various reasons, the meeting was moved to the Duke Of Brunswick Hotel.
The pub still has to comply with social distancing restrictions and number limitations, and I think it’s one of the few that survived the financial aspects of the pandemic, largely by investing their time and money into upgrades and also preparing and delivering meals from their kitchen.
But Adelaide has had no new cases for a while, so things are somewhat relaxed.
I hadn’t seen these men and women since February, and there were quite a few ridiculous “quarantine beards”, so I didn’t feel out of place with my own ample facial growth.
After drinks were ordered, a friend offered to go halves some dumplings as an entree.
His were nearly gone before I could a get a photo!

with mushroom sauce.

I asked a for a dessert menu, which strangely is separate from the main menu and various desserts were ordered by the group. The desserts were quite impressive, and I think the tiramisu might have to be a “must have” next time, but I settled for the comfortable choice of ‘Icecream with Chocolate’.
Icecream drizzled with chocolate and sprinklesThe night ended at 10pm, much earlier than I had expected, but it’s good to leave people wanting more. And as a way of shaking off the social rust of isolation, these things can often need to be taken slowly.
Downstairs there these plush sloths, dutifully obeying social distancing rules (relative to their size).

A Sloshed Sloth.All in all, it was a good night out and one that I appreciate having made the effort for.
It’s good to recharge the mental batteries at times and also get stuff off your chest.

The food looks amazing! Sloshed sloths should definitely be a thing.
The food is quite nice. A little pricey for what it is, but once a month or so doesn’t hurt.
It does look like it would be on the pricy side, with the careful layout and small portions. Very fancy looking.
