The lovely front porch with lots of rocking chairs for relaxing and enjoying the magnificent view at the Philbrook Farm Inn in Shelburne, New Hampshire.
The tradition of painting the porch ceiling blue began over 200 years ago in the deep South with the enslaved Gullah people who believed the color blue would keep away ghosts and evil spirits.

Great "P" words. Porch and Potter and Playground are gems. Love them. Your poster of Easy Rider reminded me of the time in high school when our whole class boycotted our Music Class just to watch this film starring Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper. It was a riot inside the movie house. We all nearly got suspended for that though lol.

What a coincidence - last night I made few photos of an empty playground with the idea to post for the #shadowhunters. Hope not to be late, otherwise I will miss again the round.

I have seen many photos of these white Porches with blue ceiling, but never thought of a reason for painting it blue. Maybe I thought it was blue to simulate a blue sky somehow 😉
The Hunt is back and I am curious what words the people will come up with 😊 You have already posted a few which might stay unique like the Potter.

It was believed that ghosts wouldn't cross water and painting the ceiling blue tricked them and made them stay out of the house. I would have thought it was blue to replicate the sky, too!
I knew the fact that they can't cross water, but that they can get tricked is new to me 😄

Back to finish that response! I had my groceries delivered this morning and they arrived right in the middle of typing a reply to you. It is hot as blazes here again today and I needed to get all the perishables put into the refrigerator.
I am not a big fan of chrome bikes either. That particular one is pretty iconic though, isn't it? Born to Be Wild!
The letter P was fun.. I wonder how many unique Q words there will be? 🤔
Yeah, the things belong into the fridge as soon as possible when it's that hot.
I think we have been talking about chrome before ;) and most I would hate the cleaning of it 😉
But this bike would be something I'd love to ride for once to have the feeling they showed in the movie ... Born to be wild 😃
I honestly haven't thought of the letter Q yet and I think is is going to be really hard, even for the native English speakers I think 😉

This blue ceiling of the Porch evokes holidays to me, each time I see a blue element on a house , shutter, door, window frame or whatever, it makes me since always feel in a vacation home 🤭 there are a lot in Vendee and in Brittany, so that might be the reason why...
...and lastly, wouldn't you say your purple flower is so well assorted with my Pooh-poop ..? 😄
I debated between pelican, penguin and parrot, but pigeon won!
The playground photo was taken for the Shadow Contest, but I don't think 8 ever used it.

I'm doing okay. It's hot as blazes again here today so I went out early and got a few things done that needed to be taken care of, and the rest of my day will be spent putting away the groceries that I had delivered. .
My Chicago kids are coming on Saturday and we are going to social distance grill out! I can't wait to see them. The last time was in May!
Terrific photos for the letter P Melinda! I also love that many of these photos also have shadows! I never knew the story behind painting the porch ceiling blue. I've seen a couple of them painted blue around here over the years and never knew why and just thought it was a random choice of color but now I'm thinking maybe I need to paint my porch ceiling blue..lol. 😉 🙂

Pretty looking day, and no kids at play in the playground. Seems a strange thing to see, but these are strange times, certainly not as strange as the year of Easy Rider. I did like that movie.
Strange times, indeed! The Easy Rider movie is 51 years old and I saw it in the theater when I was in high school. God, I'm old! 🤣🧓😳
I think I saw it at the drive in. My mom and dad used to like going to the drive-in on Saturday evenings.
Going to the drive-in was a rare thing in my family. And I never really thought about it before, but my dad drove so many miles to get to whichever job he was working on, that the last thing he would want to do at night would be to sit in a car and watch a movie. He was a crane operator and had to drive to wherever the bridge or the high rise building was that they were working on. If it was under a hundred miles he drove back and forth every day, anything more than that and he would spend the week near the job.

Thanks so much! My Chicago kids were here today. It's the first time I have seen them face to face since May and I am so happy that 8 got to be with them. We grilled out and the kids played badminton and we got all caught up on what everyone is or isn't doing. A truly wonderful Saturday.

It is very nice of you to share the fantastic time you had with your Chicago kids. Getting together with family always enhances the bond and love among you, doesn't it? I think that one can not underestimate the memories created during times together with family. Some stay forever in the minds of the children.
I know by my personal experience that not everything that happened in my life stays in my memory, yet there are many memories from the times with my parents and siblings (I am an orphan and the only one living in my family) that stays with me and have gotten me through to where I am now.... memories from what appeared to be insignificant events of ordinary life.

Grand open porch like that is what I always dreamed of but never had! History on how the porches are painted with blue ceilings so interesting, never heard of that previously.
Craft of hand made pottery must be relaxing, rewarding once you know what you doing, clay pots are so much better for planting in than the modern pots one sees more often today.
