Windsurfing in the Cayman Islands
For my entry this week I go back almost twenty years in time (where did the years go) to revisit a vacation the family went on to the Cayman Islands located in the West Indies.
The resort we stayed at was Morritt’s Resort located at the East End of the Grand Cayman. The Cayman Islands are a fantastic vacation destination and I highly recommend if you ever have the chance to visit, do not hesitate!
In addition to heated swimming pools, a spa, and numerous onsite restaurants there also were many complimentary watersports and activities included in the cost.

The oldest three sons were teenagers at the time. While they enjoyed jetskiing and snorkeling in the pristine Carribean Sea the boys were most interested in learning the new sport called windsurfing

"Windsurfing is a surface water sport that is a combination of surfing and sailing. It is also referred to as "sailboarding" and "boardsailing", and emerged in the late 1960s from the surf culture of California."

After the instructor conducts a training session on land, the boys go into the sea to try out what they learned.
The instructor is the relaxed-looking guy who is wearing a red shirt. He most likely relocated here from California...
Mast...sail...wind...boom...
blahblah..harness..strap...
blahblah....outhaul...downhaul...
Easy does it!
Off they go!
Successful!
The clarity of the ocean is unforgettable!
Unfortunately the resort as we originally knew it was severely damaged by Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and had to be rebuilt.

When my husband, youngest son and I visited the Cayman Islands a decade later we returned to the East End of the island to see what the rebuilt Morritt's Resort looked like, and reminisced while we had lunch and cocktails at Mimi's Dock Bar "the first and only dock bar in the Cayman Islands."
Mimi's
It gives us peace and solace to remember how much fun Brandon (wearing white shorts in the photos) had on this vacation: the place where he learned to windsurf and soar across the Caribbean Sea. We keep him alive by celebrating the joyful memories we have of his short 24-years of life. This is intended to be the furthest thing from a sad post.
Whenever I hear the song "Come Sail Away" the lyrics will always remind me of Brandon windsurfing in the Cayman Islands.
I'm sailing away
Set an open course for the Virgin Sea
'Cause I've got to be free
Free to face the life that's ahead of me
On board I'm the captain
So climb aboard
We'll search for tomorrow
On every shore and I'll try
Oh Lord I'll try
To carry on
I look to the sea
Reflections in the waves spark my memory
Some happy some sad
I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had
We live happily forever
So the story goes
But somehow we missed out
On that pot of gold
But we'll try best that we can
To carry on
A gathering of angels
Appeared above my head
They sang to me this song of hope
And this is what they said
They said, come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me (lads)
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me (baby)
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
I thought that they were angels
But to my surprise
We climbed aboard their starship
We headed for the skies
Singing, come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me (lads)
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me

Oh! Now I am going to have that song stuck in my head for days LOL!! Really quality pics considering it was 20 years ago. I am always fascinated with how their water always looks so beautiful!
Great memories of a fun vacation Nina @ninahaskin.

As I commented to @farm-mom the one kite I found laying around in the garage was an aged one. The only way that kite was getting up [in the sky] was if it popped some Viagra! @davidesimoncini🙃
Great post. The water there is just so beautiful.
Must have been a great trip!
