Worldbuilding Prompt #735 - Escaping Apocalypse

in Worldbuilding3 months ago

This post was inspired by a writing prompt in the Worldbuilding Community - "Countdown"

Although in this case, it's more world destroying than world building - enjoy a vision of apocalypse 😁

10
A devastated city, a ruined, war-ravaged world.

9
So many buttons to press, so many dials to check, so many levers to pull and safeties to acknowledge. So little time to get away.

8
The desperate survivors are rushing this way. A mob, they want to get off the planet, this ship is their only chance. It is already full.

7
More Total Conversion bombs are falling, pulverising ruined cities further, turning rubble into dust and radiation.

6
The blast and mushroom clouds sweep away the mob. Men, women and children die screaming, incinerated by million degree hurricanes. There is no more mob threatening to rip the ship open.

5
The engines finally ignite. The ship shakes. Is it the rockets, or the blast from the bombs ?

4
The land tilts, the sea rushes in. Tectonic forces are released, continental plates rip asunder, the land is reshaped.

3
All motors are go. Will the overloaded ship lift in time ? The sea races towards us from one side, the TC bomb blast from the other, both just moments away.

2
The rocket lifts. I can hear passengers screaming in the back as the G-force rapidly builds. Maybe we'll make it. It's going to be close.

1
We're away. Headed for who-knows-where. Safety or death. The world beneath is a shattered ruin. Could anyone down there have survived the interstellar missile bombardment ?

You know those text-less comics you sometimes see? Images of just a quick scene with no dialogue or anything? THAT is how this played out on my head. Very cool!

Thank you ! I have to admit I was very inspired by a very old Hawkwind double album I've got, which came with a double sleeve and (for the limited edition initial release) a booklet full of hippie imagery, cartoons, poems and text. But of course, I made it a lot more apocalyptic, as I do 😁

Hahah awesome! That's the way to do it.
