Randy Poffo, better known in the wrestling world as Randy Savage, was born on November 15, 1953 in Downers Grove, Illinois. Son of wrestler Ángel Poffo, he began playing baseball as a catcher in various minor leagues until his father introduced him to the world of wrestling. Little by little, young Randy begins to put baseball aside and dedicate himself to wrestling full time.
In 1973 he had his first fight against Paul Christie. He begins wearing a mask and using the name "Spider" in the Georgia and Florida areas. He then meets Arn and Ole Anderson. He begins to team with the latter in the ring and even becomes the champion of the Southeast team. A few years later, he would regain the same title as his brother's partner, Lanny Poffo, who would be known as "The Genius" in the WWF a few years later. When Ole Anderson says that he fights as Savage, Randy decides to change his last name to Savage.
At Wrestlemania IV on March 27, 1988, Savage won a 14-man tag team match to become the WWF World Heavyweight Champion. Savage defeated Butch Reed, Greg Valentine, One Man Gang and Ted Dibiase in the finals to win the title. In the finals against Dibiase, Savage was assisted by Hulk Hogan, who faced Andre the Giant, who also assisted Dibiase. From that point on, Hogan and Savage would become Mega Power.
At SummerSlam on August 28, 1988, Megapolis defeated Dibiase and Andre in a match refereed by Jesse Ventura, thanks to help from Elizabeth. At Survivor Series on November 24, 1988, The Megapowers - The Survivors battled Dibiase. This is where the tension between Hogan and Savage begins, when the former hires Elizabeth as his manager. In late 1988, Hogan was attacked by Big Boss during a Love Brother segment. Savage showed up to help Hogan, leading to a feud between the Megapowers and Bossman & Akeem, known as the Twin Towers.
Now that his in-ring career is over, Savage will appear as Bonesoe McGraw in Spider-Man. One of the craziest moments in Randy's career was when he released a rap album that included the song "Be the Hulk." On October 8, 2003, the CD received a scathing review from the New York Post. In it, Dan Quilante writes: "By blowing and sucking at the same time, you defy the laws of physics." On November 7, 2004, Randy made a surprise debut at the TNA Victory Road pay-per-view and announced that he was the new sheriff in town. He reportedly had a bitter feud backstage with Hulk Hogan.
On November 9, 2004, Randy asked TNA officials to cancel future matches with the federation. He used the safe environment as an excuse. On November 19, 2004 he returned to TNA to face The Kings of Wrestling (Jeff Jarrett, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall). At the end of the November 26 show, Randy faced the King of Wrestling. On December 5, 2004 at Turning Point, Randy Savage, Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles defeated The Kings of Wrestling. On December 8 he left TNA again after disagreeing with the ending of the next PPV.
