The origins of WWE date back to 1952, when Roderick James "Jess" McMahon and Toots Mondt founded Capitol Wrestling Corporation Ltd. (CWC) and joined the National Wrestling Association (NWA) in 1953. McMahon, a boxer from Successfully, he teamed up with Tex Rickard in 1926. With Rickard's help, he promoted boxing and wrestling at the third Madison Square Garden. This is not the first time that McMahon promoted a wrestling book as it was in the 1910s. McMahon died in November 1954, and one of Mondt's partners, Ray Fabiani, brought in McMahon's son, Vincent James. McMahon Jr. and Mondt were very successful and soon controlled approximately 70% of NWA's bookings due to their dominance in the densely populated northeastern United States.

In 1963, McMahon and Mondt feuded with the NWA over signing "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. When Rogers awarded the new WWWF World Heavyweight Championship in April of that year, both men left the company in protest and formed the WWWF. A month later, on May 17, 1963, he lost the championship to Bruno Sammartino after suffering a heart attack a week before the fight.

The WWF was hit by allegations of steroid abuse and distribution in 1992. The following year, WWF employees were accused of sexual harassment. WWF and general bad reputation. The steroid test cost the company about $5 million in record sales. This helped promote World Championship Wrestling (WCW) for many WWF wrestlers, including 1980s childhood hero Hulk Hogan. , Bret Hart and The Undertaker discover new talents.

In January 1993, the WWF launched its flagship cable show, Monday Night Raw. WCW responded with the Monday Night Show, which aired simultaneously with Raw in September 1995. The two shows won the next ratings battle (known as the "Moonnight War") in mid-1996. At this point , Nitro had dominated the ranks for almost two years, leading to the introduction of the New World Order (nWo). ), led by former WWF performers Hulk Hogan and Scott Hall (formerly Razor Ramon). ) and Kevin Nash (formerly Diesel).
