Good afternoon, my dear friends at @topfivefamily. Happy midweek. I saw this photo and immediately thought of an experience I share almost daily with my children. Today I want to participate in your Observe, Think, Write contest.

The photo of the initiative inspires me to create a story for you, maybe fictional, maybe based on real events; I haven't decided yet. This old phone brings back so many memories, and I stopped using it so long ago that I can only imagine it being displayed in an antique shop.
La foto de la iniciativa me inspira a crearles una historia, tal vez ficticia, tal vez basada en hechos reales, todavía no lo decido. Es que este teléfono tan viejo me trae tantos recuerdos y yo dejé de usarlo hace tanto que solo me lo imagino siendo expuesto en una tienda de antigüedades.
Seeing this photo of heart-shaped fried arepas made me laugh because I'm one of those mothers who often makes dishes like this for her children to surprise them. And they do. Just seeing their faces light up with a smile and that bright look in their eyes, these are moments that make me tell myself, it's worth the effort to make something special for my kids.
Ver esta foto de arepitas fritas en forma de corazón me hizo reír porque soy una de esas madres que muy seguido les prepara platillos así a sus hijos para sorprenderlos. Y vaya que lo hacen, nada más de ver sus caritas iluminadas con una sonrisa y esa mirada brillante en los ojos, son estos momentos así que me digo, vale la pena el esfuerzo de hacer algo especial para mis niños.
Not only do I make them heart-shaped fried arepas, I also make them with smiley faces, and not to mention, when I can make them pancakes. They love them, and I always make them in some special shape, like a flower or some kind of snowman, but I can't seem to pull them off, and even though they end up deformed, they love these special breakfasts.
No solo le hago arepitas fritas en forma de corazón, también se las hago con caritas felices y ni hablar de cuando puedo prepararles panquecas. A ellos les encanta y siempre se los hago con alguna forma especial, como una flor o una especie de muñeco, pero no me sale y aunque me queden deformados, a ellos les encantan estos desayunos especiales.
When it's time for lunch, my oldest son helps me chop the seasonings and season the meat I'm preparing for them. He's my favorite kitchen helper because he lets me do everything ahead of time, and I do the work of putting everything together more quickly, adding Mom's secret touch.
Cuando toca la hora del almuerzo, me ayuda mi hijo mayor, él se encarga de ayudarme a picar los aliños y sazonar la carne que vaya a prepararles. Es mi ayudante de cocina favorito porque me deja todo adelantado y yo hago el trabajo de armar todo de manera más rápida, agregándole el toque secreto de mamá.
And for dinner, I try to make them a special dish again. If I serve them fruit, I present it pre-cut with cookie cutters or cut it as finely as possible so they eat first with their eyes and then with their mouths. That's what my mother taught me: first eat with your eyes and then with your mouth, and that's what I try to instill in my children so they can continue the family tradition.
Y para la cena, intento nuevamente hacerles un plato especial. Si les sirvo alguna fruta, se las presento picadas con moldes de galleta o las pico lo más lindo posible para que coman primero con la mirada y luego con la boca. Así me enseñó mi mamá, primero se come con la vista y luego con la boca, y es lo que intento inculcarles a mis hijos para que sigan la tradición familiar.
