I just created a proof of concept of an idea that I wrote earlier about that you can check out on https://whenwhere.cf
Basically, if other people are nearby to you and they have posted something under the local tag, you will see those posts. This is not restricted to Hive and there is a very simple system to do this, however posts on Hive are the only ones so far that will show up automatically, because I can freely use the API unlike e.g. Twitter. This also means that you can look up easily what is posted for another location you might be interested in, there is just no interface for that specifically yet (just look up the OLC for that location through e.g. Google Maps, Mapy.cz, OSMAnd, https://plus.codes/map/ or any other system that helps you find them, or calculate it by hand, take the first 6 digits and put them after the magic word geo; now you have your local hashtag).
My hope is that more and more products will integrate this use of hashtags to indicate locations, so we can provide e.g. Open Source and P2P solutions for things like ride sharing, finding accomodation, promoting local events etc. For now I think the best use is communicating local needs in this global lockdown situation.
With this proof of concept, I hope more people will give a try implementing this so it will actually become useful!
