I was never an enthusiast of fishing contests, if my memory does not fail I have only participated in two, the first many years ago when I worked at the Central Bank of the Republic and I enrolled in one that organized the bank club's fishing commission.
The event took place in the Chascomús lagoon, a large body of water belonging to the "Las encadenadas" system, named after several lagoons that are linked by a river and hence its name.
After that tournament and seeing in the specialized magazines the great slaughter of fish, in my pointless way of seeing them, which were shown with full-color photographs, only to show the success and the number of pieces obtained absolute nonsense.
After more than 30 years without competing again, a friend, organizer of the “Pejerrey de Plata” strongly asked me to participate, he needed people to attract other fishermen and he got a good number of friends as “bait”.
I accepted but not before making sure that the regulations only allowed to present one piece per fisherman since the largest pieces were awarded. They gave us conservatives to keep the captured specimen alive and be able to replace it with another if we were lucky enough to catch a larger one.
The hours were quite restricted and the area very extensive, in a large sector of the enormous Río de la Plata.
Of course I did not win, I did not feel comfortable participating in it and I did not keep any fish. I went alone to help him.
What struck me powerfully is the number of fishermen who participate in these tournaments, of course, the prizes are attractive and that makes the number of registered participants is huge.
The number of boats was also astonishing, and even more so since up to 3 fishermen were allowed per boat.
The weather was excellent and that also influenced the crowd to be huge, I leave you as an example some photos of the event.
After this second experience I have not signed up again and I will try not to do it again, even if my friends ask me to.
Nunca fui un entusiasta de los concursos de pesca, si la memoria no falla solamente he participado en dos, el primero hace muchísimos años cuando trabajaba en el Banco Central de la República y me inscribí en uno que organizaba la comisión de pesca del club del banco.
El certamen se desarrolló en la laguna de Chascomús, un gran espejo de agua perteneciente al sistema de “Las encadenadas”, llamado así debido a que varias lagunas se encuentran unidas por un río y de allí su nombre.
Luego de ese torneo y viendo en las revistas especializadas la gran matanza de peces, a mi modo de ver sin sentido, que se mostraban con fotografías a todo color, solo para mostrar el éxito y la cantidad de piezas obtenidas, un despropósito absoluto.
Luego de más de 30 años sin volver a concursar, un amigo, organizador del “Pejerrey de Plata” me pidió encarecidamente que participara, necesitaba gente para atraer a otros pescadores y consiguió una buena cantidad de amigos como “carnada”.
Acepté pero no sin antes cerciorarme que el reglamento solo permitía presentar una sola pieza por pescador, ya que se premiaba a las piezas más grandes. Nos dieron unas conservadoras para mantener vivo al espécimen capturado y poder reemplazarlo por otro si se tenía la suerte de pescar uno más grande.
El horario era bastante restringido y la zona muy extensa, en un gran sector del enorme Río de la Plata.
Por supuesto no gané, no me sentía cómodo participando de eso y no me quedé con ningún pez. Fui solo para ayudarlo.
Lo que me llamó poderosamente la atención es la cantidad de pescadores que participan de estos torneos, por supuesto los premios son atrayentes y eso hace que la cantidad de inscriptos sea enorme.
La cantidad de embarcaciones también fue asombrosa y más aún dado que se permitían hasta 3 pescadores por lancha.
El clima estuvo excelente y eso también influyó para que la concurrencia fuera enorme, les dejo a modo de ejemplo algunas fotografías del evento.
Luego de esta segunda experiencia no he vuelto a anotarme y trataré de no volver a hacerlo, aunque mis amigos me lo pidan.

Creo que los concursos de pesca asi como los referidos a la caza o cualquier otra iniciativa relacionada con el mundo animal no son tan agradables como se promocionan.
Una vez participé en un concurso de birdwatching y tampoco me gustò. Centenares de personas concursando en un evento. No me gusta.
Me gusta màs participar en solitaria o con un par de amigos. Pero todos juntos tratando de competir no me va.
