Well, no, but it can lead you to experiment in your own laboratory (your body) then draw your own conclusion.

I wouldn't want to use my body for such. Is it even ethical to do so?

Why would it not be ethical?

Do you eat cheese or yoghurt (also fermented products)? If so, did you not experiment by eating them (even if you didn't realize you were experimenting)?
