From what I've heard it's virtually impossible to live in China without WeChat. But on the other hand, those who give up WeChat and stick with Apple may have better privacy

I agree that Apple provides better privacy than any Chinese app (WeChat in this case). However, "better" does not necessarily mean "good enough".
