To say I am on the struggle bus this morning would be a bit of an understatement. I had my morning all planned out, and then things kind of went to crap all because I mistyped the MAC address for one of our VoIP phones. That cost me about an hour before I realized my mistake and now here I am typing up my HIVE post about an hour later than I usually do.
I'm not sure why, but it has me a bit stressed out. I'd love to turn the clock back about 48 hours and be sitting in front of the delicious breakfast you see in the opening photo. During the week I don't usually have time to have a proper breakfast, so I usually just shovel down a bowl of cereal before I head off to work.
I'll be the first to admit that cereal isn't the best way to start your day. In fact, depending on which cereal you eat, it's probably one of the worst ways to start your day. Probably right up there behind doughnuts and Pop Tarts. To be fair, I tend to opt for the less sugary cereals in the morning, so that helps. Then each day at work around 8 AM I have some whole fat vanilla Greek yogurt with fruit and granola.
I'd probably be better off if I made that my actual breakfast, but I am not sure it would sustain me long enough to keep me from snacking on other random stuff.
I really wish I had more time in the morning. I've really started to enjoy the simple deliciousness of hard boiled eggs, and while it would be easy to make up a big batch on the weekend and then eat them through the week, I just don't seem to have the appetite for it during the week like I do on the weekend.
The opening photo was my breakfast on Saturday before @mrsbozz and I headed out to run some errands. I have always been a sucker for a big breakfast, so that is one of the things I love the most about lazy Saturday and Sunday mornings at home. This week it was some Canadian Bacon, an air fried hash brown with ketchup, and two hard boiled eggs with a little bit of salt and a lot of pepper.
It was delicious and it clearly turned out a lot better than my omelettes have over the past month or so. Like I said, there is a simple elegance to hard boiled eggs that makes them a real treat.
I honestly had a big long post planned for today, but this is going to end up being one of the shortest posts I have done in a while. Actually, if it isn't too late, I might turn this into a poll. I've had conversations with my nieces and I know that neither of them really eat breakfast at all which is crazy to me. As they say, it is the most important meal of the day. However, there are so many combinations I think that can be open to interpretation.
Like I said, if I sit and eat two doughnuts, that can't be considered a good start to my day at all!
Hopefully things turn a corner for me here soon. I also hope you got a great start to your day, no matter what you shoved in your face!

I'm often having breakfast in my office, we have hotel-style buffer as a benefit ;)
No way! That is crazy! I would be so fat! I don't have much self control!
I don't eat breakfast at all. My fist meal of the day is at noon as I follow intermittent fasting 16/8 Method. I eat my first meal at noon and last meal at 8PM every day.
Interesting. I have heard good and bad things about intermittent fasting.

I hate those rushed mornings, I don't have them often thank goodness. Sorry to hear about the nightmare with the wrong MAC address. I'm an early morning riser, most days I'm up around 5:30. Just an old habit I've never been able to break. It does give you plenty of time to get things done though.
Saturday looked like a great breakfast, too bad today wasn't as good. My breakfasts have gotten rather small, mostly coffee with some toast with tomatoes, avocadoes, a little extra virgin olive oil and fresh jalapeños. It's tasty and filling, and very low calorie. Got to stay on my diet...
I hope you're day has gone better, good old Monday!
Avocado toast is so good. It's harder to get decent avocados up in our area though. I get up at 4 most days through the week. Workout for twenty minutes or so, get around and leave for work at six. We pull into the parking lot at work around 6:30. Then we work until 3:30 most days.
High-Protein Greek Yogurt with Whipped Cream, and a bowl of fruit. Coffee and a couple of different Juices.
Sounds delicious. My Greek yogurt is one of my favorite parts of the day.
Coffee during the week, weekends can be anything from toast to a full Scottish fryup... but no doughnuts!
Hope your day got better!
It did thanks!
In my country (Türkiye) we have a big breakfast during all week but especially on sundays it's very big :)
What sorts of things do you have in your big breakfast?
Especially pastry for example 'Börek- Poğaça- Simit, Pide ' , sometimes traditional foods like 'Kuymak' it's made from corn flour, butter and Kashkaval cheese .
Sounds interesting!
I’m not a breakfast guy. It’s not that I don’t like breakfast food. I love eggs, bacon, etc, I’m usually up and working by 4-5am every day. Three days a week I’m at the gym by 5am lifting heavy. I can’t lift with food in my stomach it makes me want to puke when I lift heavy. When I’m working I feel I’m more productive and my brain is clearer when I don’t eat.
Really? That is interesting they last bit. It sounds like you have found a routine that works for you.
If you look at the studies not eating till lunch time makes you more productive.
Interesting.
Allegedly, the best way to start your day is protein-heavy, so eggs and ham/bacon are definitely for the win. Me, I generally go lighter, like you, Greek yogurt and some nuts and fruits. Right now, I'm experimenting with delaying my coffee and having some tea first in the morning. So far pretty happy (shocked you can exist without coffee first thing, but still). :)
I'd prefer tea if I did anything. I usually save that for the colder months. I might have a cup in my office once I get to work. I tried doing protein shakes for a while, bu they really messed up my stomach.
I switch breakfasts all the time. Quite often, it's a bowl of oatmeal or grits, with a couple of small sausage links. (That's a very fast & easy breakfast to make, and Quaker's "Jalapeno Cheddar Grits" are the bomb! Yum!) Other mornings, it's an omelette with bacon bits and onion in it. Other mornings, I might make a frittata with a smoked sausage cut up in it. This morning, it was a bowl of Raisin Bran, but tomorrow might be a fried egg over canned hash. I like variety! 😁
That does sound like a great variety. I try to do oatmeal every now and then, but I usually don't have the patience for it. If you try to eat it when it isn't all congealed it is too hot. If you wait for it to cool down it is like paste!
I tend to have cereal every morning. If I am in a hotel then I may exploit the buffet to fill up. Some places do a nice veggie 'full English'.
That sounds interesting. I am heading to a conference at the end of this month and I plan on having an omelette each morning. Especially since places like that usually use the powdered stuff for their scrambled eggs.
That is a great breakfast! Maybe on vacation? I don't work, so I can take my time and eat slowly. Coffee of course, or there is no intelligent thought :) I'm not really hungry when I get up but there's a morning pill I have to take with food, so after about an hour I'll have an English muffin w/butter (no jam...too much sugar) or a couple of baby sausages. An hour or two later I'll have something else... and I'll keep it up all day. No big meals. Little bit all day long. Stop eating by 7 at night. No more sugary food for me 😞
That sounds like a really good plan. I have heard the thinking behind eating a bunch of smaller meals before. I need to start cutting back on the sugar myself. I am much better than I used to be, but I know it is still a vice for me.
Haha, I can totally relate to the struggle of balancing convenience and nutrition during busy weekdays — cereal is just so easy, even if it’s not the best option 😂🤣.
I'm glad I am not alone!
Absolutely😊
It can happen, and even the smallest mistakes can ruin our morning plans, but life teaches us to slow down and not let a rough start ruin our beautiful day. A healthy breakfast, as you offer us, and peace of mind usually fixes more than we think.
Those are great points. I need to try to make more time for stuff like that I think.
A big breakfast all the way!!!
I need that energy 😂
I would everyday if I could!
It's not so stressful for me because I work from home. I usually have a banana or a cookie with my first cup of tea, and then I'll have brunch, tea and supper rather than breakfast, lunch and dinner. I can wait until I'm really hungry.
I also tend to have a bigger breakfast during the weekend, but the reason is that I'm more likely to go out, to the gym or to some kind of meetup. My favorite way to prepare eggs is to fry/poach them in half oil, half water. That way, they'll be soft all around and won't stick to the pan. I learned this trick from someone who learned it from a Chinese restaurant.
I think the weekends tend to give us a lot more freedom to do things like that. I'd never try to make an omelette during the week when I am trying to rush out the door for work! Sounds like a tried and true technique. I don't know as though I have ever had poached eggs.
I usually make a breakfast sandwich of some sort these days and maybe have a cranola bar along with some coffee. So I selected other. Before retiring, I rarely ate breakfast but drank the crap out of coffee.
Yeah, it was kind of a loaded question. There are so many different combinations! I just can't do coffee.
I can’t drink it like I used to. It upsets my stomach. A couple cups is all I can do.
A Japanese breakfast usually. Rice, miso, nattō. White rice has a super high glycemic index, meaning it's not much better than white sugar, so I'm not sure if this breakfast is the healthiest in the world, but it works. We ate brown rice before but now the kids refuse it, so my wife just buys white.
We usually eat brown rice versus white. I think my favorite is jasmine. We used to get that all the time, but we don't really anymore.
Jaysus @bozz , looking at your breakfast I would say you would demolish and Irish breakfast.
I don't think I could do the blood sausage or whatever it is....
Just simple sausages. You would be surprised how nice the black and white pudding is. I'm bloody hungry even thinking of it. When I lived in Dortmund , the Germans used to buy this fish roll with the tail hanging out the end of the roll. I would be nearly vomiting watching them tuck into it on the train
Woof, that sounds horrible. I couldn't remember if it was the sausages that had the blood or some kind of pudding. Either way, I don't think I could stomach it!
