It's only words...

In case you haven't noticed, there have been a lot of word clouds floating around HIVE lately. It's all part of the new HIVE Analytics that @themarkymark has been developing. If you don't know what a word cloud is, according to Google, it's:

"a visual data representation that displays words from a text or collection of texts in varying sizes and colors, with more frequently used words appearing larger and more prominent.

There was a time when word clouds were really popular in the education space, but I don't see them as much as I used to anymore. Like many other sectors, we seem to have jumped on the AI bandwagon now.

Anyway, this tool is part of a larger group of tools that Marky put together and wrote a proposal for. If you have voted for it, I encourage you to go over and do that. There are a ton of great tools in his web-suite.

I actually think it's pretty funny that this word cloud tool has gotten so much attention. It's probably driving the haters crazy and for whatever fabricated reason, Marky definitely has a lot of those.

For a long time, I've had an entry in my Google Keep notes reminding myself that I needed to write a post about the word "though". It's a word I have found myself using quite a bit in my writing over the years. It's often used at the end of a sentence right before a period with the implication of "despite the fact". I don't know why this word has become so prominent my writing, but it is something I have been consciously aware of for quite some time now.

Oddly enough, I noticed the other day that @azircon was highlighting the fact that he apparently uses "however" excessively based on his word cloud, and by some coincidence, "though" is listed as a similar word to "however", so I guess I am not it too bad of company.

However (see what I did there), as you can see from the word cloud that was generated based on all of my posts for the past eight years that I have been on the blockchain, "though" doesn't even make the list. Unless I'm just missing it, but I have scanned this thing at least two or three times now and I am just not seeing it.

I think it's funny that Leo Finance is showing up so big. I guess there was a time I was pretty involved over there, I also think it used to be in the signature line that I put on every post, so that could be part of it as well.

It might be cool if Marky could add the ability to filter out specific words. I know that @holoz0r was hoping to filter out the term "Splinterlands" from his word cloud, I don't know where that ever ended up though.

Haha, there I go again!

I'm not going to fully deconstruct my word cloud, but I am going to key in on a few specific words that pop out at me. The first being "pretty". It's quite large, and it surprised me a bit to find it so prominent in the word cloud. I'm pretty sure I am using it like I did to start this sentence and not to indicate that something is actually "pretty". I never would have guessed I use it quite that much though (it's a habit, sue me).

"Awesome" on the other hand doesn't surprise me that much. I remember a couple of years ago I was at a store buying something with one of my nieces and the cashier asked me if I wanted something in a bag or something like that. I think I replied with "yeah, that would be awesome", and my niece was laughing as we made our way out of the store. I asked her why she was laughing and she said "because no one says awesome anymore". Apparently, I do, and I do it a lot. Sorry hon!

I'm guessing "posted" shows up so large because most of my post probably say "posted using peakd, ecency, or leofinance" on them. Like I said, it would be cool if we could filter stuff out of the processing on the front end.

Finally, I love the fact that "interesting" is one of the bigger words in my word cloud. That tells me that I am looking, finding, and discovering things in the world around me. The fact that I am noticing things about live and choosing to share them here on HIVE is a wonderful reminder (for me) that life is meant to be lived. Even the random run of the mill moments in your week. I want to keep absorbing it all and never stop finding those interesting things that make life so "awesome".

I like seeing the positive words, great and fluffing were front and centre for me.

Why does that not surprise me! "Fluffing" had to be there!

hehe death taxes and Fluffing 🤣

This is pretty cool lol I will check out what mine looks like! I have an idea of what will be in there.. but for the most part, I am not really sure what the big ones are going to be! Probably photography, my son and a handful of others I can think of. Damn, too bad it's late at night for me to check it out :D

I don't think it is going anywhere, so you should be good!

Excellent tool.

Totally awesome dude! Funny that no one uses awesome anymore except us old timers, funny how the English language slowly changes idioms from generation to generation. I'll have to check out my most commonly used words, although, I must confess I'm a little terrified to do so. I might find I use some words that I do consciously try to avoid these days. Ironically awesome is one of them! Another one of those phrases gone the way of the dodo is "totally rad dude"! lol

Haha, you might be surprised! I genuinely was.

I mean, my v1 word cloud also reads "never play splinterlands" and has "futile content" in the middle, so it is incredibly poetic.

My report card recently added vocab and unique word usage and rare word usage stats.

Marky and I are doing very different things, but both bring lots of value to hive.

I definitely agree with your last sentence. I think these two projects are some of the most exciting stuff I have seen being build on/with HIVE in a while now.

I think the footer that I put at the end of most posts (when I remember) is influencing my word cloud. Most of these words are straight from the footer! haha

"divider" is interesting. The only place I use that is an html comment before the hive divider I use. So this word cloud seems to be picking up html. Probably it could be updated to ignore html, but there probably isn't much he can do about ignoring my footer.

Due to both these things, this is kind of worthless for me, unfortunately. Still — cool idea!

I think Marky just added some adjustments to remove things like "center" because that was showing up a lot in peoples clouds because of them using the markdown for photos and stuff.

"Divider" is an artifact, like <center>. I think Marky has made sure they will get filtered out. Yet, (I wrote 'however' and then changed to 'yet'!), I think too much filtering would be less than ideal. In my case it was rather accurate.

I found word cloud to be one of the less useful reports from Marky 😀

I never said it was useful! 😀 Interesting though..
