Day after day, I’m more and more in love with carnivorous plants. I find that they are special plants, full of charm and very interesting from an evolutionary and scientific point of view.
One of the best known Italian growers is undoubtedly Cristian Depalmas, known as "Le Carnivore di Depa". His Facebook page is full of beautiful photos of carnivorous plants that are part of a very rich and colorful collection. You can also find important cultivation tips.
The followers like me are always updated on the latest developments in carnivorous plants in the collection and it is not uncommon to find some very funny photos where the plants are in the company of sweet animals.
The subject of my today’s illustration is one of these nice intruders. I made it with Adobe Illustrator and it’s completely in vector. Of course, I first asked the owner of the page if I could use the reference photo. The species is Sarracenia flava var flava Tibbburtina.
Vector graphics are distinguished from raster graphics because:
- Shapes are modeled through mathematical calculations, rather than relying on pixels;
- Vector images can be enlarged or reduced without loss of definition;
- It is resolution independent: it can be printed at any size and resolution;
- Even if the graphics are large in size, they take up little space on the disk;
- A vector image can be converted to raster with very few steps, while the opposite is not possible;
- ...

Giorno dopo giorno, sono sempre più innamorata delle piante carnivore. Trovo che siano piante speciali, ricche di fascino e molto interessanti dal punto di vista evolutivo e scientifico.
Uno dei coltivatori più conosciuti italiani è senza dubbio Cristian Depalmas, conosciuto come “Le Carnivore di Depa”. La sua pagina Facebook è ricca di bellissime foto di piante carnivore che fanno parte di una collezione molto ricca e variopinta. Potete trovare anche importanti consigli di coltivazione.
I followers come sempre aggiornati sugli ultimi sviluppi delle piante carnivore della collezione e non è raro trovare delle foto molto divertenti in cui le piante sono in compagnia di dolci animali.
È proprio uno di questi simpatici intrusi il soggetto della mia illustrazione di oggi. L’ho realizzata con Adobe Illustrator ed è completamente in vettoriale. Ovviamente, ho prima chiesto al proprietario della pagina se potessi utilizzare la sua foto. La specie è Sarracenia flava var flava Tibbburtina.
La grafica vettoriale si contraddistingue dalla grafica raster poiché:
- Le forme sono modellate attraverso calcoli matematici, anziché basarsi sui pixel;
- Le immagini vettoriali possono essere ingrandite o ridotte senza perdita di definizione;
- È indipendente dalla risoluzione: può essere stampata a qualsiasi dimensione e risoluzione;
- Anche se la grafica è di dimensioni importanti, occupa poco spazio sul disco;
- Un’immagine vettoriale può essere convertita in raster con pochissimi passaggi, mentre il contrario non è possibile;
- …

Wow! that vector graphic is undouble amazing, How detailed it is actually since I learnt illustrator and InDesign I can totally understand the detailing of vector graphic takes lots of patience and time.
