"Golden Hour in Tuscany" - Alla Prima Oil Painting

in Discovery-it19 days ago

There is a misconception about oil painting in the world that keeps budding artists from trying this medium. People assume one needs expensive canvasses or clunky wooden boards to paint with oils. This is not so: oil paints can be applied to paper like any other medium. The only caveat is, the paper needs to be sealed with several coats of acrylic gesso so the oil can't wick into the paper.

From the first I have standardized my painting to 200 lbs (300 gsm) artist grade paper in the small format of 16" x 12" (40cm x 30cm), matching my limited studio space and funds for the hobby. This has the advantage of being large enough for framing (if desired) while requiring fewer and less expensive supplies -- and less time to actually finish my paintings. 😀

Thank you very much. 😀

Yes, you would want to live in that painting! When it comes to color, there are no rules at all, and that's what's fun!

Absolutely. I love Tuscany, and I'm coming back to it over and over. 😀

This is amazing dearest friend😃

Thank you. 😀

Oil painting makes it look like a real picture and you may feel it is not expensive while some people may feel it is
So it differs…

Naturally, what's expensive is relative, but I'm really working on a tight budget myself. To get started with small format oils can be done with under $200.00 U.S. buying artist-grade supplies, less when going for student-grade stuff. That's enough for dozens of paintings - on paper, not canvas. Which was my point.

Ooh I get you
$200 seem like a lot of money to me though😆

To me as well. 😀
