When I have little time but want to relax with my pastels anyway, I sometimes resort to the works of other painters for reference. The advantage is, I don't have to plan how to simplify a scene as it's done "for me" already.
I only have to figure out which changes I'd like to make, and how to replicate the effects of the reference (usually oil or acrylics) with oil pastels. While that presents a challenge in its own right, it still saves time and I learn a lot in the process.
"Cottage by the Pond"

Wenn ich wenig Zeit habe, mich aber trotzdem mit meinen Ölpastellkreiden entspannen möchte, greife ich manchmal auf die Bilder anderer Maler zurück. Der Vorteil ist, dass ich nicht planen muss, wie ich eine Szene vereinfachen kann, da das bereits "für mich" erledigt wurde.
Ich muss mir nur überlegen, welche Änderungen ich vornehmen möchte und wie ich die Effekte der Vorlage (in der Regel Öl- oder Acryl) mit Ölpastellkreiden nachahmen kann. Das ist zwar eine Herausforderung für sich, aber es spart dennoch Zeit und ich lerne viel neues dabei.

Was den „Segler“ betrifft, möchte ich nicht wissen, was die Analyse des feuchten Etwas ergab, auf dem er sich fortbewegt. 😮🙄
Das Häuschen am Teich könnte glatt aus einem überaus romantischen Märchen stammen. Ohne Mord und Totschlag als Abgang. Ich hoffe nur, dass es sich bei dem kleinen Anbau um das Satellitenklo handelt. Ansonsten müsste ich Kopfkino betreiben und eine Verbindung zum Piss Cutter herstellen. 😉
Der Begriff "Piss Cutter" ist ein altmodischer Slang-Begriff des U.S. Militärs und bezeichnet eigentlich das soldatische Schiffchen, also die Kopfbedeckung. Daraus ist dann erst mit der Zeit ein nautischer Kolloquialismus entstanden. Spassig, wie aus einem Schiff ein Hütchen und dann wieder ein Boot wird. Mir ist er nach Abschluss der Farbgebung des Wassers eingefallen, und da hatten wir beide wohl identische Gedankengänge. 🤣
Übrigens, das englische Wort für "Künstler" ist "Artist". Es gibt aber auch im BE den "Piss-Artist", der weniger mit Kunst und eher was mit Spirituosen zu tun hat. Die korrekte saarländische Übersetzung lautet dann "Suffkopp". 😀

I love this painting, Cottage by the Pond. I am really struggling to paint some landscape scenery. Changing the colors makes it more interesting.
There are plenty of examples of landscape paintings and oodles of reference photos. Learn from these examples; the rest will come with repeated practice. Good luck and have fun! 😀
