"Wild Thing"

As promised in my last post, this is what the portrait of the girl is supposed to look like when it isn't botched at the underpainting stage. As you can see, I still need a lot of practice, but I'm getting there. As always, the portrait is inspired by a model photo on unsplash.com.
A quick underpainting was done in Gouache to tone down the paper and avoid working on stark white. For the actual portrait I used Mungyo Gallery (from South Korea) and Paul Rubens (from China), both of which are soft, pigment rich, very blendable, and lightfast oil pastels. Neither brand's quality is that far removed from the leading Sennelier brand, but they sell for less than half the price. That said, at about $1.00 USD a stick they're not cheap crap, either.

Eine schnelle Untermalung erfolgte in Gouache, um das Papier herunter zu tönen und um zu vermeiden, dass ich auf nacktem Weiß arbeiten muss. Für das Porträt verwendete ich Mungyo Gallery (aus Südkorea) und Paul Rubens (aus China), beides weiche, pigmentreiche, sehr gut mischbare und lichtechte Ölpastelle. Die Qualität beider Marken unterscheidet sich nicht gravierend vom Marktführer Sennelier, aber sie kosten nur die Hälfte. Mit ca. 1,00 EUR je Kreide sind sie allerdings auch keine billige Ramschware.
