Year In Review
We have made sure through last year, as we normally do, to give continuous updates on our work via our actifit blog. In total, we had 30 actifit updates, which averages to around 2.5 updates per month.
Actifit has grown and metamorphosed into a full-fledged service provider to our Hive ecosystem, offering complete front-end services, which not only cater to Actifit needs but provide an open door to our fitness community or anyone who's new to Hive to use our front ends for blogging and vlogging with bridges to many other Hive initiatives.
Our work covered tons of collab work, major development across all our platforms including web and mobile, while also expanding our onboarding, marketing efforts, socials and onsite live events.
Collabs
Throughout last year, and to accomplish our mission of bringing more hive visibility to our community and elevating our added value to our user base, we have engaged in multiple collabs with some of the key hive ecosystem players, which include integrations, partnerships or sponsorship. Below are the main ones:
- 3Speak: We integrated 3speak video creation via our web experience, and later via our mobile android experience. We also expanded our support for the spk network by setting up 3 encoder nodes to help with video encoding decentralization, in addition to our full cluster node, official spk node, and most recently spk testnet node, bringing our assigned total server count to 6.
- Hive Engine: We have expanded our support to hive engine across web and mobile, providing integration to all HE tokens and enabling related actions from our interface. We continue to run both our witness and API nodes for HE.
- Keychain & Hive Auth Integration: We have implemented keychain and hive auth support as login and transactional methods via our web experience.
- Peakd: We have integrated stingchat into our web and later mobile experience, while pushing adoption of this pretty slick solution provided by the peakd team. We also setup our own sting chat node in support of its decentralization.
- Posh: One of our first collabs in 2023, where we integrated posh status into our Actifit web experience and promoted this to our user base. Hopefully, things will pick up again for posh.
- OCD: OCD team welcomed Actifit to its curation initiative, whereby we assign some of our own team curators to increase community recognition and rewards.
- VSC: We love the VSC initiative and in that regard we have setup our own node and we have helped troubleshooting some issues in node setup.
- Leo: We supported leo's adoption campaign back in April, while also assigning dedicated account to focus on threads content creation. Additionally, we joined the leofriens initiative, to further promote the use of leo threads and polls.
- HiveBuzz: We joined hivebuzz and sponsored the women world cup contest as a gold sponsor in last August.
- dCrops: We sponsored a couple of events by dcrops providing AFIT giveaways to the community.
Development
We are proud to say that we had 19 releases across our platforms through the year including web, android and ios, which incorporated major features, developments and integrations. While detailing them here is an overkill and we have shared some of which in the collabs section above, we will highlight a few of the additional major ones:
- Blogging Capacity: We turned Actifit into a full round front end that supports posting to hive, regardless if it's an actifit or fitness post, or related to any other community on the chain.
- Communities Support: We implemented full support for community search, listing, display and blogging.
- Explore Page: We created our own unique hive explore page, which enables users to explore hive content from different communities' perspectives, with several top communities preloaded, while filtering in/out their focus communities.
- Major Overhaul for Actifit iOS: This was an important milestone for us to bring the iOS version of Actifit up to speed with its android counterpart in terms of UI/UX but also functionality, and continuously develop it to bring many new features which are being developed on Android and web in parallel.
- New Social Experience on Mobile: Users have now full access to Actifit reports from within the android app, with the capability to interact and vote/comment on content straight from within Actifit app.
- New Gamified Experience on Mobile: This involved new reward incentives to our users by reaching milestones, and the capability to earn extra rewards by watching interstitial ads upon reaching 5, 7, or 10k across both mobile solutions.
- Other key features included: New Post Screen, Wallet Page Revamp with public view support, 3speak Video Vlogging, Sting Chat Integration, Notifications System Revamp, Profile Page Improvements, Hive-Engine Tokens Support, Keychain & Hive Auth Integration, Dark Mode Support and much more...
- Hive Alert Chrome Extension: We have released our first Chrome extension that enables users to receive notifications for anything hive-related, which includes security-focused notifications on withdrawals or other payment-related actions, but also hive-engine and other hive dapp notifications following a full revamp of our actifit notifications engine. The extension functions separately from Actifit, and can be downloaded from Chromestore via this link
Code (Always Open Source)
We have also been quite active in pushing our code changes to our github, as our work is open source across our repos.
Below is a quick graph showing our activity on commits/pushing changes to github, which amounted to more than 431 contributions, with an average of 8.28 weekly contributions.
Infrastructure
Similarly to last year, our infrastructure has expanded, and we are running now 23+ servers in support of hive and different initiatives on top of hive. Many of those servers are in support of our collabs highlighted in the sections above. Others include our main hive witness node, seed node, and API node, the latter of which is going through a major upgrade via finalizing the upgrade to a haf API node with a large server (18CPU/60G/4TB), as well as our hive image server amongst others.
Onboarding, Socials, & Events
Last year has seen major increase in our activity on socials & increased engagement, while also creating more content focused not only on hive itself but also supporting other dapps and initiatives.
Our onboarding recorded 470+ new signups via our Actifit signup page, so 470 new hiveans who started on Actifit and many of whom expanded to other areas of hive, which is the feedback we receive often from several of our users.
Additionally, we kicked off the first-ever Actifit & Hive promotional event in Lebanon, which involved financial rewards and signup to participants by challenging them to do on-the-spot pushups.
The event was a great opportunity to introduce Actifit, Hive and the ecosystem of dapps on hive via brochures, free accounts and financial rewards.
2024 Plans
Our plans for this upcoming year are a continuation of the prior year's effort, with a focus on the similar areas highlighted above as those go in line with our vision of a better stronger Hive ecosystem.
- Collabs: We believe this is a core differentiator and growth factor for hive, we have been vocal and active on this end, and will continue to focus on collaborating with the initiatives we already had worked with together. We also would like to join hands with initiatives that we have not had the opportunity to work with yet. You can expect collabs with @threespeak, @hive-engine, @ecency and @dbuzz to name a few.
- Development: Actifit is in perpetual motion in terms of coding and development, we have tons of planned work, some of the headlines include:
- iOS Version Improvements: In addition to all the improvements in the iOS version, a lot of additional key components from the Android and web experience need to be incorporated, including the social experience, the actifit market, video integration and several key wallet actions amongst others, not to mention other advancements planned throughout the year on the web and android versions.
- Core Hive Governance: While we currently support limited governance in our web and app experience, we plan to expand this support to cover functionality such as proposals & witnesses
- HAF Focused Functionality: We intend to introduce HAF-based functionality onto our actifit experience progressively, and our first step after finalizing our HAF based full node is deploying a copy of block explorer node to make it public to our user base. The witness governance functionality above should also benefit from this setup.
- Android and Web Based Improvements
- Team and challenge-focused functionality to be rolled out
- Augmented Reality Experience to be introduced to Actifit, with portal to other hive projects
- Additional Gamified Experience
- New Wearable Integrations
- and much more
- Onboarding, Social, & Events:
- We plan to continue expanding our onboarding efforts, as we will be releasing a new onboarding functionality for our users focused on 0 cost accounts (in addition, we plan to also collaborate and adopt 0 cost account technology from other hive dapps - ceramic accounts or others, when ready).
- We have several events in the pipeline for the coming year, which we believe would help expand the user base for both hive and actifit. Events will be focused on gyms/universities/street workouts, and are planned across different geographic locations, as well as potential sponsorships for Hive events such as hivebuzz
- We plan to start onboarding local shops, in Lebanon, targeted at accepting payments via Hive, HBD, AFIT, in alignment with our latest in-app functionality for payments.
Requested Funding
As planned in the prior proposal, the bulk of last year's funding went into development resources (around 74%), and the rest into infrastructure, devops and graphics/socials cost.
For this year, we project similar cost plans and breakdown. We did not increase our requested funding, as always we do not wish to put more pressure on the DHF and prefer to maintain a conservative figure for our funding while covering some of the needed costs. The cost breakdown is as follows:
- Current infrastructure cost (500$ monthly)
- Devops cost (600$ monthly)
- Developers cost (web, android, ios: 3 x 1,700$ monthly)
- Graphics/Socials cost (700$ monthly)
We are therefore looking at a monthly asking of 6,900 HBD, which equates to 230 HBD per day across year 2024.
Again, we have used a very conservative calculation aiming not to overload DHF, on the basis to cover some of the needed costs.
As we usually do and have done throughout the prior year, we will provide continuous updates on our progress and growth.
