It was my first sunny holiday in a while, so I went to a park by the river that I had been meaning to visit for some time.
I brought my lunch and planned to just have lunch there and go home.
But things happened and we decided to walk to another park along the same river.
We walked for about an hour amidst the fresh greenery and wildflowers of May.
It turned out to be a nice embankment walk and I will post it in several parts.
I was reminded of the beauty of nature on this day as I walked along the embankment.
It was also a reminder that "nature right next to the city" is in harmony with human life.
I also realized the strength of "nature that has not forgotten its wildness even though it is right next to the city.
I decided to write an article about this.
I initially landed at this location.
This is the place with the "red arrow" on the map seen from above.
It is a green park using a riverbed, and there is a disaster prevention facility in case of flooding in case of heavy rain.
This stretch of green grassland is usually used as a park.
There were sparse people walking, jogging, cycling, and walking their dogs.
At first my only purpose was to come here.
A friend of mine was enjoying a simple barbecue on the grassy area here, and out of curiosity, I came to visit as well.
Although it was not my plan at all at first, it was introduced on the map of the site, and as you can see on the map, if you continue walking from here, you can reach the park at the location indicated by the "yellow arrow".
I had planned to have lunch at the first place and go home after that, but I wanted to walk.
Because the covered tables and benches where I was going to eat my lunch were occupied by a large group of walkers (LOL).
The sun was strong on the lawn and it was quite hot, so I wasn't sure what to do.
Then I found out that I could walk to another park and decided to go there and have my lunch afterwards.
I started walking at 12:45 at noon and walked along the bank until 13:35.
This is a big river and has flooded several times in the past when it rained heavily.
As you can see in the photo, we often see large trees washed down from upstream.
It is a large river, wide, and when the water is low, the riverbank is exposed and usually overgrown with grass and chi.
When a large amount of water rushes in from upstream, such as when flooding occurs, this area is all submerged as well.
I experienced a catastrophe about 20 years ago when an unimaginable amount of water rushed in and I experienced it myself.
As I will write about in a later article, there are many measures that can be taken in this area that has experienced severe flooding.
The watchtower by the levee in the photo is one of them.
Cameras are constantly monitoring the water level of the river.
It is usually very peaceful.
Many people come and go between this side and that side of the river every day, and there are many trains running.
While I was walking along the embankment, trains passed by one after another every five minutes or so.
Underneath the trains, an egret is standing calmly.
It looks like it is meditating.
In addition to "bridges for trains to cross," the river is crossed by several bridges for "roads for regular vehicles" and for "highways.
The red cable-stayed bridge in the photo is beautiful and impressive. It is a bridge for expressway.
The bridge is named "Red Dragonfly Bridge.
It is really nice by the river with a big expanse of sky.
We kept walking and got closer to the green park we were aiming for.
We can now see the dog run at the most end of Green Park.
We continue walking a little further down the embankment to see where we can get down to the park.
The parking lot for this greenbelt park is located on the outside, encircling the park.
Walking citizens can enter the park from the levee through the parking lot.
The "multipurpose plaza" can be seen from the top of the embankment.
You can see cars sparsely parked in the parking lot.
Some people were relaxing on leisure sheets, although this picture does not show it very well.
This day was a weekday, sandwiched between the "Japanese spring holidays (Golden Week).
But this year's calendar allows for 10 consecutive holidays if you make good use of paid vacations.
Many people were spending their holidays.
There is a large pond in Green Park, and this pond seems to have been created by drawing water from the river.
Swan boats are also waiting.
Under the white canvas roof is a barbecue space.
The system is to make a reservation in advance to use the space.
Many people were enjoying themselves.
I found a bench in the shade where I could see this scene.
There I made a cup of coffee and ate a simple burger and chocolate bread.

This levee walk was a wonderful walk. It was unquestionably the TOP enjoyment of my recent walks.
It was sobering to see so many May wildflowers.

久しぶりに晴れた休日だったので、以前から行こうと思っていた川のそばにある公園へ行きました。
お弁当を持っていき、そこでランチを食べて帰宅するだけの予定でした。
でも、色々なことがあり、同じ川の川沿いにある別の公園まで歩くことにしました。
5月の新緑と野草の花が咲く中で、約1時間の散歩をしました。
素敵な堤防散歩になったので、何回かに分けて投稿しようと思います。
私はこの日、堤防を歩くことで自然の美しさをを改めて実感しました。
それも「都市のすぐそばにある自然」が人の暮らしと調和していること。
そして「都市のすぐそばにあっても野生を忘れていない自然」の力強さを実感したこと。
これを記事にしようと思いました。
私は最初はこの場所に降り立ちました。
ここは上空から見た地図の「赤い矢印」をつけている場所です。
河原を利用した緑地公園になっていて、大雨が降った場合の水害に備えた防災施設もあります。
このように緑の草原が広がっていて、通常は公園として使用されています。
ウォーキングやジョギング、サイクリングや犬の散歩をする人がまばらにいました。
最初は私はここにくるだけが目的でした。
友人が、ここの芝生広場で簡単なバーベキューを楽しんでいて、興味があって私も見学に来たのです。
当初全く予定になかったのですが、場内の地図にも紹介があり、また地図を見ていただくと分かるのですが、ここから歩き続ければ、「黄色の矢印」の場所の公園へ行けることがわかりました。
最初の場所でお弁当ランチをして、それだけで帰宅予定でしたが、私は歩いてみたくなりました。
というのは、お弁当を食べる予定だった屋根のあるテーブルとベンチが、大勢のウォーキング団体によって占領されてしまったからです(lol)
芝生の方は太陽が強い日だったのでかなり暑くて、私はどうしようか迷いました。
その時、歩いて別の公園へ行けることがわかり、そこへ行ってからお弁当を食べることにしたのです。
お昼の12:45から歩き始めて13:35まで堤防を歩きました。
この川は大きな川で、過去に大雨が降った時に何度か水害がありました。
写真のように上流から大木が流されてきている光景もよく目にします。
大きな川で、川幅が広く、水が少ない時は河原が露出しているので、通常は草や気が生い茂っています。
水害が発生するような大量の水が上流から押し寄せる時は、ここも全て水没します。
想像もつかないような量の水が押し寄せ、約20年前に大災害があり、私も経験しました。
この後の記事でも書いていきますが、大変な水害を経験したこのエリアには多くの対策があります。
写真に写っている堤防のそばの見張り台はその中の一つです。
川の水位をカメラが常時監視しています。
普段はとてものどかです。
川のあちら側とこちら側は多くの人が毎日行き来していて、電車もたくさん走っています。
私が堤防を歩いている間も、5分に1本くらいの頻度で次々と電車が行き過ぎていきました。
その下では白鷺がのんびりと佇んでいます。
瞑想をしているように見えます。
川には「電車が渡る橋」以外にも「通常の車が通行する道路」のための橋と「高速道路」のための橋がいくつも架けられています。
写真の赤い斜張橋は、美しくて印象的です。高速道路のための橋です。
「赤とんぼ橋」という名前の橋です。
川のそばは空が大きく広がっていて本当に気持ちが良いです。
歩き続けて、目指す緑地公園が近づいてきました。
緑地公園のもっとも端っこにあるドッグランが見えてきました。
堤防をもう少し歩き続けて、公園に降りて行ける場所を確認します。
この緑地公園の駐車場は、公園をぐるりと取り囲むように外側に設けられています。
ウォーキング市民であれば、堤防から駐車場を通って園内に入ることができます。
堤防の上から「多目的広場」が見えます。
駐車場にはまばらに車が停めてあるのが見えます。
この写真ではあまりよく見えませんが、レジャーシートを敷いてくつろいでいる人もいました。
この日は「日本の春の連休（ゴールデンウィーク）」に挟まれた平日でした。
でも、今年は有給休暇を上手く使えば10連休にすることもできるカレンダーです。
多くの人がお休みを過ごしていました。
緑地公園の中には大きな池があり、この池は川の水を引き入れて作られているようです。
スワンボートも待機しています。
白いキャンバスの屋根の下はバーベキュースペースです。
事前に予約をして利用する仕組みになっています。
たくさんの人が楽しんでいました。
私はこの様子が見える場所で日陰にベンチを見つけました。
そこでコーヒーを淹れて簡単なバーガーとチョコレートパンを食べました。
その様子を数回に分けて投稿します。
■ひとこと日記
この堤防歩きは素晴らしい散歩でした。ここ最近の私の散歩の中ではダントツTOPの楽しさでした。
5月の野草の花をたくさん見ることができて、心が洗われました。
