Wczoraj los nas rzucił do Lubawy, mieszka tam siostra żony. Rodowici lubawiacy posługują się dość charakterystyczną gwarą, w związku z tym złośliwie, my ostródzianie, nazywamy ich meksykanami. Dlaczego? To może próbka możliwości w dowcipie:
W Lubawie był napad na jubilera. Policja dotarła do świadka, który słyszał włamywaczy i stwierdził, że to byli meksykanie. Policjant się pyta, skąd tu meksykanie? Jak do tego doszedłeś? No to świadek mówi. Słyszałem jak ten, co był na czatach, pyta się tych w środku "Kończyta?", a ze środka ktoś odpowiedział "Jeszcze te kilka".
[ENG] Yesterday fate threw us to Lubawa, the wife's sister lives there. The native Lubawa people use a rather distinctive dialect, and as a result, maliciously, we Ostroda residents call them mexicans.
Lubawa leży zaledwie 25 kilometrów od Ostródy, ale przed II wojną światową była polskim miasteczkiem. Długo była w cieniu dwóch większych miast po sąsiedzku: Ostródy i Iławy, ale od czasu, kiedy szwedzki potentat meblowy zdecydował się zbudować w Lubawie fabrykę mebli, to pozostawia te dwa miasta daleko w tyle. Przy jednej z uliczek odchodzących od rynku fasadę budynku zdobi okolicznościowy mural w żółtych barwach.
[ENG] Lubawa is only 25 kilometers from Ostróda, but before World War II it was a Polish town. For a long time it was overshadowed by the two larger cities next door, Ostróda and Ilawa, but since a Swedish furniture tycoon decided to build a furniture factory in Lubawa, it has left those two cities far behind. On one of the streets leading away from the market, the facade of the building is decorated with an occasional mural in yellow colors.
Według niektórych historyków to właśnie w Lubawie Kopernik za namową biskupa Giesego oraz swojego ucznia Retyka wyraził zgodę na publikację swojego przełomowego dzieła "De Revolutionibus...”. Tutaj Retyk, Giese i Kopernik prowadzili także obserwacje astronomiczne.
Wczoraj było za zimno na dłuższy spacer, szczególnie że towarzyszył nam teść, ale zdążyliśmy zobaczyć największe atrakcje, w tym odrestaurowane ruiny zamku Biskupów Chełmińskich. Zamek zbudowano na początku XIV wieku, w 1545 roku budowlę zniszczył pożar, od tamtego momentu niszczał, aż w 1826 roku rozebrano pozostałości, zostawiając jedynie mury obronne. Właśnie te mury zostały poddane rewitalizacji w drugiej dekadzie XXI wieku.
[ENG] Yesterday it was too cold for a longer walk, especially since our father-in-law accompanied us, but we did manage to see the main attractions, including the restored ruins of the castle of the Bishops of Chelmno. The castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century, in 1545 the structure was destroyed by fire, from then on it deteriorated, until in 1826 the remains were demolished, leaving only the defensive walls. It was these walls that were revitalized in the second decade of the 21st century.
