Yesterday I went over to the old place, it's just on the boundary of the city. A little row of shops, community centre, garage, school, surgery, pub. There used to be a hardware store amongst the bookies, the chippy and the offy. Now, the supermarket, post office, a cob shop and greengrocers, and an Indian takeaway, although you can alcohol in the supermarket. Cheaper prices than where I live now.
There were two guys riding around in mower buggies, they made off across the green, modern day cow pokes.
I sat in the sun for a while eating chocolate and marvelling at the quiet and the very wide sky that I've only seen in that part of Leicester. I moved off before school turning out time when the place is flooded with families. Amazing to have all that open space in a built up area and with the Willow Brook running through it. There's water everywhere in Leicester, running in gullies and sluices, across open land and beside the streets.
I should go over there more often.
