Australia Day broke to a clear blue sky with a promise of a hot day - 30C hot but nothing like we have had the last few years. Got busy updating the investments made this far this week. The dragon flies cruise in and out of the sun room - this one happy to land long enough for a photo - they eat mosquitos
My wife was keen to have a quiet day at home - been a busy week already for her. She went shopping. I was going to ride to look for orchids - took the car instead and drove to far side of Ku-ring Gai Chase NP. The mission - midge orchids
Found one budding next to the track. Last year there were at least 10 plants in this area - one only thus far. Brittle midge orchid - genoplesium baueri is endangered
Spider grevilea stages - flowering
And seeded
Leptospermum squarrosum - peach-flowered tea tree
Did find midge orchids in a a new spot - confusing ID as these are green - could be Rupp's midge orchid
Close up
Side on of the flower up top. This is where it gets confusing
In the same spot was this one with different colour
Close up shows the structure is similar
Side on too. Going to stick with ID the same
Walked down to where the fringed midge orchid was budding last week
Hyacinth orchid makes it 3 for the day - dipodium variegatum
Corunastylis fimbriata has come on a bit. Flowers are just separating from the spike
Got out of there just as the rain storm started. Keen to get under cover with big risk of hail
Dinner: Bolognese sauce to go with GF ricotta and spinach agnolotti my wife found in her shopping. Was a good combo - washed down with a 20 year old red - an Aussie Day tradition I invented
Dog has been a challenge - cheeky
Book choice fits
Trade action: After getting back onto India and Emerging Markets went to buy SE Asia - ASEA, EPHE, EWM, VNM. China opening has to be good for tourism in those economies
