First day if the annual Australian Bike Friday Group ride weekend. Had chosen a ride that went through parts of grasslands that I might find orchids. As it happens I was the only person riding that route - a perfect day to do my thing
Canberra has an amazing network of sealed bike paths. Those hoops are a key indicator for where directions change. Our ride planner produced amazing maps - just follow the breadcrumb trail
My choice was based on access to the grasslands - maybe an orchid showing
Walked this slice of grassland - a bit dry for orchids
View across the lake
Recognised this turnoff - our friend's son lives up this road - we visited once
Walked off track a bit to look for orchids - was thinking this area has had cattle - sure has wallabies. Well they were right there - got a photo
Rode up to the far end of North Canberra - views across the north
Sikh temple
Literally the last houses up north. Roads are quiet - amazing foresight to force developers to build bike paths
Always a view to a mountain
Big rain coming - might be doing this on Saturday
Not to be outdone - big Catholic Church in Kaleen
Passed around the back of Canberra Stadium - home of the Canberra Raiders. Photo for a friend who is a keen folloer of Mal Maninga
Morning ride done - took a shower and lunch. Then went to drive south to Tinbindilda Nature Reserve - orchid time
A flower with bugs in first walk spot
Tinbindilda creek
Maybe a greenhood orchid leaf - shape is not consistent with what I have seen - but this is new area for me
View back down the valley
Loop walk from Black Flats - site of an old eucalyptus oil distillery - what is left now
Drove to the Sanctuary - maybe another orchid. Did see a bandicoot around here - never seen one outside a zoo
Never knew Nelson Mandela said that
A whole series of ponds on the loop walk - sorry no platypus
Saw lots of these leaves coming down the hill - flowering native violet
Never seen this type of duck before - no idea what it is
Working on reflections
A very peaceful place. Drove the longer way via Cotter - winding road testing the hoon driver
Dinner in the camp restaurant - another dsy tomorrow wandering the bike paths of Canberra
