Hi @elizabethbit, they are pipevine swallowtail caterpillars. They will become beautiful pipevine swallowtail butterflies! I've had the host plant for these butterflies in my yard about 3-4 summers. The host plant is called Dutchman's Pipevine and there is also Wooly Dutchman's Pipevine. In the summer of 2021 I witnessed 3 different times of caterpillars hatch and completely eat all of the leaves of my Dutchman Pipevines and disappear and become chrysalis. This summer was so hot, that the Pipevine Swallowtails just showed up in my yard about 3 weeks ago and laid eggs. Anyway, it's one of my favorite butterflies that shows up in my yard! I've been researching butterflies in our part of Texas since 2012. I guess it's one of my hobbies to plant host and nectar plants for them in my yards. Have a great day!
Here's a link to what they look like.
