We used to build ours and have loads of fun seeing which will fly best. Sometimes you still see parents with children kite flying, normally purchased not home made.

I've always built my own kites. Some of the "pieces" were really "spectacular" :-). One kite was shaped like a seagull and had a wingspan of 2.5 meters
