My Actifit Report Card: August 18 2022

Well, I didn’t get the laptop sent off today, but I did get a lot of writing done. I have a piece that’s working on languages in games (and how and why they generally suck), and then also a new one-page daily game.

I say one-page, but it’s 1600 words because it’s front-and-back. It has a fancy mechanic I call “throwing all the dice all the time” where you’re trying to score matching results on a bunch of six-sided dice. It’s called Our Final Struggle, and you can find it here.

It’s really sort of interesting because it’s both a standard roleplaying game and a journaling game, since you make a character by describing where they’re from and who they were before the revolution, then go through a chart describing their experiences at war.

I think it’s interesting as a concept, I don’t know if it works all that well in practice but it’s interesting so I wanted to do it.

There’s probably a lot of overlap for characters in character creation, for instance, because it’s all about military experience. There are a few other options, but they can lead toward sort of general martial proficiency.

Oh, and I got the job I interviewed for. It sounds like it’ll be sort of light at first, mostly just training and filling in for people as they’re busy with stuff, but one of the employees is leaving for other things and that’ll give me more hours.

It’s perfect for me because I just need a little supplemental income to keep Loreshaper Games afloat while I get the big commercial projects out. Once the daily games I’ve been doing are done (which is Sunday, IIRC), I’ll be back to a regular working schedule getting Oasis Roads and Carrion Birds out the door.
