@nomaddreamer and I got an early enough start to our hike today to see the sunrise. As sunrise is happening later with the season changing, and we don’t normally start until after our kiddo takes off on the school bus at 7, we should get to see it more often! At least until the time change. 🙄
The wildlife was out, the sky was beautifully sunny with puffy clouds, and the forest was calling.
Mia the Wonder Aussie made sure we could find turtles. She sniffs and ‘points’ to them for us. She even made sure to make us aware of some very rounded rocks that she thought were turtles.
I like to think she’s helping us to notice the wildlife, while in actuality she just wants a snack.
This unfortunate turtle was something’s prey. Dog? Mia wants one but hasn’t succeeded. Black vulture? Human? What can crack a shell like that? Whatever it is, it was there recently… this was a newer addition to the trail.
Luckily we didn’t only see the cracked apart shell.
The turtles were out today— I didn’t get pics of all of them. Most of them were off trail, where I dare not go without long pants and thicker shoes!

Along with our hike, we also cleaned and moved furniture, did chores, and took the kids to the pool.
If anyone ever suggests swimming in the Ozarks in September, don’t fall for it, no matter how sunny it is! We froze. It was fairly miserable. 🥶
