Walking through Vancouver. My Actifit Report Card: March 20 2023

in Actifitlast year

Same start to the day as usual. Head out with the dog on the morning walk and I had a beautiful sunrise to look forward to.

Then off to the park.

Where I saw these birds sitting way up above the baseball diamond. Now they really don't look like much way up there but I'm assuming those are confused woodpeckers. Why confused? Because they keep trying to peck through those metal canisters they are sitting on.

So every so often there is a rapid pace metallic sound as they try to drill through the metal. It sounds a bit like a phone ringing. Makes me think of how futile some peoples actions are but even still it adds character to my morning walk.

Then I continue through the park and get another view of the sunrise reflecting on the lake in the morning. Nice and peaceful.

But then I walk a little further and come across a fire truck and two ambulance in front of a house and its a little bit of a realization that even when things look peaceful there can be bad events hiding right behind.

After that I continue home and continue my morning routine. I do my stretches, balancing, and situps/pushups but don't get to do them in my usually carpeted area because my wife is missing me and wants me to be with her.....so I have to do them on the cold hard living room floor. Ick

Then usually I would go back around the park and do some coin hunting but today I first have some of my wife's friends come over for me to do their taxes. Then I head into Vancouver so I can help another friend get in some driving practice (he has a learners licence and can't drive without a qualified driver with him).

So, off to Vancouver. But Vancouver is crowded and expensive to park so I only drive halfway to Surrey and park beside the Skytrain station. So much cheaper and easier to park there and take transit in than drive all the way.

As a suggestion to anyone who wants to visit Vancouver. If you want to see everything on a budget don't book a Vancouver hotel...they are super expensive. Don't book in Richmond (near the international airport) as its fairly expensive and you'll be tempted to rent a car which means driving in Vancouver ...ugh.

Check the rates at the Civic Hotel in Surrey. It is usually 1/2 to 1/3 of the price of Vancouver hotels.... nice plus

It's a nice hotel with beautiful views and amenities..especially if you are a Marriot platinum elite ;)

But mostly you can take the skytrain right from the airport to the hotel for about $6 and it is quite quick. NOT recommended if you are travelling with a lot of luggage, but if you keep the luggage light it can be great.

Here are some pictures: Of the hotel from where I parked. Of the transit station where I went. Of the hotel from inside the transit station--as you can see it is directly across the street. Very convenient.

))))))))))))

Then I take the train into Vancouver. Only takes 30 minutes and I pass the time quickly by getting my coin hunting done on the trip.

Here are some picture of the trip.

So that the tracks in Surrey. Then the bridge over to New Westminster. Then keep going through Burnaby and onto Vancouver. Then a picture of Science World (the funny dome) and finally to granville street station with the really steep escalator to get you to the street.

Then I'm walking to Vancouver to get to my friend Burak's house. Start on Granville. Then over to Seymour. Then I'm looking at traffic and wondering why he wants to learn to drive here (ugh). Then finally to his house.

After that driving through Vancouver. I'm glad he's doing the driving for the next couple hours.

He is actually a very good driver but he has picked up a few bad habits from his driving in Turkey :)

Visit for bit with him then its walking back to the train station..

Take a couple of pictures. Collect a bunch of coin hunt vaults.

Then back to Surrey Central station.

Where I had to take a picture of the bitcoin atm as a crypto fanatic :)

and pick up some chinese pasty treats at the bakery there. :)

Get home to walk the dog ... again

Then time to rest, relax, and get ready for another day tomorrow.

Thanks for reading,

and have a great day
