Mulch Shaming...

This pile of mulch is now over a year old... it came from a huge tree that dropped a couple of large branches in a storm that damaged our neighbour's play equipment and squashed their Hills hoist clothes line... The rest of the tree was looking a little worse for wear, and we got approval finally to take it down. We were pretty happy to see it go, it was like a looming sword over our house... a nice sheoak... but at that size, it was better suited to the river landscape an not a suburban block!

And the tree guys left the mulch for us... we have a large block and are constantly using the mulch...

... however, for some reason, we just stopped mulching whilst we were preoccupied with other things in the garden. And this pile just sat there... and my mum kept saying that we HAD to use it! She was getting scared that it would get warm from all the decomposition activity and spontaneously catch fire and we would all die in a house fire... or something.

... anyway, it had sat there until my father-in-law spent two days getting a tree trunk out in the front... and while he was doing that, he also weeded the surrounding area. And that meant that if I didn't mulch that area straight away... well, most of his work would be for nothing! The weeding at least... I don't think that tree trunk is coming back anytime soon!

So, I managed to convince my older daughter to do the cardboarding... as she was skipping the school athletics carnival and I didn't want here on the doing her hair all day!

... our planters have been steadily providing just enough food to buff out our meals. Its been good, not too much stuff... just enough! We have a bit of a weird difference between our two zucchini plants.... one produces nice slender ones, and the other... fat arse things! Not entirely sure what does it... but it is a little bit amusing!

On the bright side of things, the sunburnt bush at the front is showing little signs of rehabilitation! Slowly slowly... I'm a bit more optimistic that it will recover in time!
