One slightly annoying thing that sometimes happens when you are travelling is that you are checked out of the accommodation on the same day that you have a concert.. and that generally means that from 10am until the concert start time (or at least the hall entry time...), you are just wandering around looking to kill time. Cafes are okay for this, but on Sundays they are sort of busy, and I get immense guilt from sitting with a laptop trying to stretch out how slowly I can drink coffee or a smoothie.
After a little bit, I decided to move much closer to the concert hall, plonk myself on a bench in the shade, and then start on the last part of the transcriptions that were needed for our ensemble community day.
I've been getting pretty good at transcribing the music into Musescore without using a MIDI keyboard. I used to think that I would definitely need the Keyboard for fast entry into the computer, but it turns out that once you get used to the shortcuts for rhythm and pitch, it gets pretty damn fast!
As usual though, the addition of additional markings ornamentation, articulation, and dynamics and all that sort of thing tend to be the slow thing, and I try to use a proper mouse for that. But thankfully, Baroque manuscripts tend to be light on all the extra markings... because they understood music, and there was an unspoken assumption on how to interpret... musicians didn't need a billion instructions to be told how to play music!
Anyway, a nice way to kill time and be productive at the same time... but that said, after an hour of this, I'm almost ready to move inside into the Green Room and rest before doing the concert. I'm pretty sure that I just saw someone go into the venue, so that means it might be possible to check if I'm allowed inside now! YAAY!

One would think those booking rooms for the concert could arrange a slightly later checkout time for you, at least another hour or two. OR could supply a board room or other place where you could all hangout for a bit. That's cool, though, that you can do your work on the laptop without having to lug a MIDI keyboard along with your instrument! 🙂
Yeah, some groups normally book the extra day accommodation so that we can check out whenever we want... But others forget, or don't have the funding!
Hope the concert went well. Transcribing is an art, but the right tools must help. It's not something I've done much of.
The concert went really well, it was the third in the consecutive concerts... So, a bit exhausted, long plays... But worth it!
