Like most double musician households... there is generally an unspoken agreement that equipment purchases happen in turns... even though that probably still puts me at a disadvantage due to the fact that violins and bows generally cost significantly less than equivalent historical keyboards (harpsichords and pianos...). But still, there does need to be some leeway given when something interesting comes up at short notice.
... and so, a few purchases ago and earlier this year, I had gotten a nice new multi-purpose Baroque violin bow... and so that meant that it was my wife's turn... and she did buy a new digital full-size weighted keyboard for practice whilst travelling... and even though it wasn't a historical instrument purchase, it was STILL an instrument purchase... and it wasn't crazily cheap either... and in that case, it meant that it was my turn again.
But whilst my wife was learning some additional maintenance skills in a workshop... she got quite taken by this small tabletop clavichord that was also in the workshop to be sold on commission. She has always wanted a Clavichord, and this is an okay one... not a dream one, there was a much better one, but that was going for about 35 thousand dollars which was a touch over our disposal equipment budget!
So, she called up... hedged around a bit... before seeing if it would bother me if she bought it. Of course, the moment that she started talking about it, I knew that she wanted it... but it did take about another 15 minutes to finally get to the point! And of course, it is never a problem! She should (and probably does...) know that... but it doesn't stop her feeling guilty about it...
... and so, by my account... it is my turn for the next two times! Which is nice... because there is a nice Classical mid-1800s century violin bow that I had my eyes on... with the stick restored from the original... and it played SOOOOO nicely the last time I tried it...
