I know it's not Tuesday but I have been catching up on @ablaze 's posts and he currently has a weekly music post called threetunetuesday. So my three tunes this week revolves a certain Fab Four. I have been stuck in 3 part documentary on the Beatles that Peter Jackson directed and the 3 episodes contain around 4 and a half hours of footage. Now I have been into the Beatles from when I was younger. Myself and a friend from collage bought the Anthology DVD's which were 11 DVD's from how the Beatles started out to when they ended. We had a couple of slabs of cans ready for action spent the weekend getting through the whole thing and with that my musical taste was changed forever. I still talk about that weekend with my friend. It was a game changer as regards music for me. Now different stages in my life , I have been into different Beatles albums but there is always a song I skip over that becomes my favourite down the road. Whenever I listen to them I also find a new song that I love that I have never liked that much before.
So the three songs I am going for this week are three songs that the Beatles rehearsed , again again and again in the documentary. Now come the end of it the band were sick of rehearsing them. And even I was kinda thinking if I hear one more "Don't Let Me Down" intro I would turn it off but it was just great to hear them not only do these songs but changing the wording, adding stuff in and taking other bits out. It was mad in a way that the viewer knows the end product of the song so you are nearly willing Paul and John to come up with the version of the song that became the hit.
Dig a Pony
So my first song is "Dig a Pony". Again I have always skipped over this song previously on the Let It Be Album but for some reason It's been in my head the whole week. During the sessions Lennon did make a point that the song took a toll on him physically. The arpeggios are pretty constant in the song so it was a hard one for them. It's an underrated Beatles song. I love the verse more than the chorus. I also love the solo. Harrison was a genius but looking at the documentary it seemed that Lennon came up with many of the solos.

I've Got A Feeling
I will give you a taster of the documentary below when the band were coming up with this song. I was just great the way they collaborated. Ringo just goes along with it. George heads off and gets his part down. They just stumble through the lyrics. Most people know this one but the video below is when they had just finished writing it.

The Long And Winding Road
One of my all time favourites. It's such a powerful song even without an orchestra. It's quite sad really. But I love an old sad song at the best of times. This is Paul's creation and he spends the whole documentary practicing it and coming up with the right lyrics. I think his road manager told him that he should replace one of the lyrics to "Standing Here " instead of "waiting here" in one verse and I was delighted it stayed in. Here's the clip.

That guy should be chuffed that he had an input in one of the worlds greatest songs. This song is great with just a piano but then George Martin (the bands posh A&R man) suggested they put strings to it. And this resulted in a masterpiece.
Bear in mind they broke up in 1970 – officially in April when the oldest, Ringo, was 29 and George had just turned 27. Unbelievable amount of songs by that age. Imagine being George Harrison only 27 years of age. Just unbelievable really. You wonder how they were that mature from such a young age to keep the band going through that many hits.
Anyway here is the Long and Winding Road. What a song. The naked version is great too but i like the orchestra version.

I have to confess that I really, really don't like the Beatles and especially McCartney but there a few songs I do like, including The Long and Winding Road. I wondered if you'd heard the re-recorded version for "Give my Regards to Broad St."?
There are a few interesting re-mixed tracks including Eleanor Rigby / Eleanor's Dream. A very forgettable movie but interesting soundtrack musically.
They (The Beatles) have many good songs in my opinion. For example the "I want to hold your hand", the "Help!", the "Hey Jude", the "Let it be", and so on. Of course this is strongly a question of taste, but they were a real classic (maybe even iconic) band, and they are much better than many of the modern bands nowadays.
Very true. No modern band is a patch on them. They were the trailblazers of music.
I quite liked that especially at this time of night. Soothing. What do you not like about them? I hear Paul thinks you are a nice fella :-D
This is class, love a good back story like this, anything to avoid going to your college lectures eh!? The Beatles are dynamite and they have so many songs to discover and rediscover, it's insane!
You picked out some class tracks, and different to the ones I would have picked out, but like you the three could literally change day to day and hour to hour, such is their unreal back catalogue. I'm not sure why, but this has always been one of my favorites:
