Hello, Hivers. Within the bands, groups or ensembles have always drawn attention to instruments with high frequencies, such as violin or guitar, which generally are the most striking instruments, but in this section of my blog, I will focus mostly on great bassists famous for their career or those new talents of these new times. The electric bass usually is not a very striking instrument for many, besides the great rockstars are always the guitarists or vocalists, but although it may not seem so, the bass and the bassist play an extremely important role, where in many cases the central axis of the musical themes is carried by the bass and usually those who create the bands are the bassists or are the producers. One of my favorite neo soul and jazz bassists is "Meshell Ndegeocello" who I discovered recently and despite being little known, in the jazz and soul music scene she is quite respected, as well as in rap music since she is also a rapper besides being an incredible bassist. Looking at her biography I noticed something that I liked a lot, which is her participation in one of the albums of "Alanis Morrisette" and in some songs of "The Rolling Stones".

Dentro de las bandas, agrupaciones o ensambles siempre han llamado la atención los instrumentos con frecuencias altas, como el violín o la guitarra, que por lo general son los instrumentos más llamativos, pero en esta sección de mi blog, me centraré en su gran mayoría en grandes bajistas famosos por su trayectoria o esos nuevos talentos de estos nuevos tiempos. El bajo eléctrico por lo general no es un instrumento muy llamativo para muchos, además los grandes rockstar siempre son los guitarristas o vocalistas, pero aunque no lo parezca, el bajo y el bajista juegan un rol sumamente importante, donde en muchos casos el eje central de los temas musicales lo lleva el bajo y por lo general quienes crean las bandas son los bajistas o son los productores. Una de mis bajistas de neo soul y jazz favoritas es “Meshell Ndegeocello” quien descubrí hace poco y a pesar de ser poco conocida, en el medio de la música jazz y soul es bastante respetada, así como en el rap ya que también es rapera además de ser una increíble bajista. Viendo su biografía pude notar algo que me agrado bastante, que es su participación en uno de los discos de “Alanis Morrisette” y en algunos temas de “The Rolling Stones”.
MUSICAL HISTORY
"Meshell Ndegeocello is a bassist born in Berlin in 1968, due to her father's military service in Germany, but she grew up in Washington D.C. where she gradually adopted music as a source of inspiration and life. Meshell studied at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Learning to play the bass was a very disciplined task for her, developing a great skill in execution and an unmatched fluency entering the local scene as a bassist in the late 80's, she tried to enter as a performer in one of the most prestigious bands in the city of "Washington D.C." but could not make it; even so she did not stop and signed with a record label and released her first single and project "Plantation Lullabies". One of her singles made it into the Billboard Hot Top 100 at #3 making her noticed in the music industry and she gradually achieved the position she currently holds. She has been nominated ten times for Grammy Awards and has collaborated with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Alanis Morrisette and even the Rolling Stones.
“Meshell Ndegeocello” es una bajista nacida en berlín en 1968, debido a que su padre se encontraba en servicio militar en Alemania, pero creció en la ciudad de “Washington D.C.” donde fue poco a poco adoptando la música como fuente de inspiración y vida. Meshell estudio en la Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Aprender a tocar el bajo fue una tarea de mucha disciplina para ella, desarrollando una gran habilidad en ejecución y una soltura inigualable entrando en la escena local como bajista a finales de los 80´s, ella trató d entrar como ejecutante en una de las bandas de mayor prestigio de la ciudad de “Washington D.C.” pero no pudo lograrlo; aun así no se detuvo y firmó con un sello discográfico y lanzó su primer sencillo y proyecto “Plantation Lullabies”. Uno de sus sencillos logró entrar en el top 100 de los Billboard Hot en el puesto #3 haciéndola notar en la industria de la música y poco a poco fue logrando el puesto que actualmente posee. Ha sido nominada diez veces a los premios Grammys y ha colaborado con artistas como: Herbie Hancock, Alanis Morrisette e incluso con los Rolling Stones.
1. Techniques used by Meshell Ndegeocello.
Her technique is superb, clean and very well achieved, it is very noticeable her roots in jazz while playing other genres, always keeping her essence. Among other things Meshell is also a rapper and the most incredible thing is that she can do it while playing her instrument, really her way of playing and singing are very unique and I recommend you to listen to her music.
Su técnica es magnífica, limpia y muy bien lograda, es muy notable sus raíces en el jazz al tocar otros géneros, manteniendo siempre su esencia. Entre otras cosas Meshell es también rapera y lo más increíble es que puede hacerlo mientras toca su instrumento, realmente su manera de tocar y cantar son muy únicas y les recomiendo que escuchen su música.
