Si son fanáticos del anime como yo, entenderán mi gran admiración por J-pop. Bueno, no es que sea un experto y esté al tanto de la industria musical japonesa, pero no dejo de impresionarme con lo versátiles que pueden ser en la isla del sol naciente.
Y es que ¿Quién lo pone en duda? En japón se hace música de la mejor. Por ejemplo, hoy les vengo a hablar de Kaikai Kitan. Una canción compuesta e interpretada por el cantautor oriundo de la prefectura de Tokushima, Eve (o E ve, como suele escribirlo) y que es el opening del shonen Jujutsu Kaisen.
Vale, empecemos…

If you are anime fans like me, you will understand my great admiration for J-pop. Well, it's not that I'm an expert and I'm aware of the Japanese music industry, but I never cease to be impressed with how versatile they can be on the island of the rising sun.
Who doubts it? They make some of the best music in Japan. For example, today I going to talk about Kaikai Kitan. A song composed and performed by the singer-songwriter from Tokushima prefecture, Eve (or E ve, as he usually writes it), and which is the first opening of the shonen Jujutsu Kaisen.
Okay, let's start...
No quiero arruinarles nada del anime, pero me veo en la necesidad de mencionar algunos detalles del mismo. No creo que sean spoilers pero bueno… ¡Avisados están!
La cosa va más o menos así. Resulta que el mundo está lleno de espectros denominados maldiciones (noroi), que nacen de toda la negatividad generada por nosotros los humanos. Cada vez que sentimos odio, miedo, envidia y todas esa clase de cosas, uno de estos entes puede llegar a nacer.
La cantidad de energía negativa que estas maldiciones reciben de parte de nosotros es determinante para el tamaño y el poder de los mismos, lo que por supuesto se traduce en mayor o menor influencia sobre el mundo real.
Muchas de estas cosas tienden a dar problemas de vez en cuando y ahí es donde entran los Jujutsu-shi. Una especie de hechiceros capaces de controlar la energía negativa y usarla en función de erradicar las maldiciones.
I don't want to spoil anything about the anime for you, but I feel the need to mention some details about it. I don't think they are spoilers but well... You've been warned!
It goes something like this. It turns out that the world is full of specters called curses (noroi), which are born from all the negativity generated by us humans. Every time we feel hatred, fear, envy, and all those kinds of things, one of these entities can be born.
The amount of negative energy these curses receive from us is determinant for their size and power, which of course translates into more or less influence on the real world.
Many of these things tend to give trouble from time to time and that's where the Jujutsu-shi come in. A sort of sorcerer capable of controlling negative energy and using it to eradicate curses.
El protagonista de este anime es Itadori Yuuji, quien por una serie de circunstancias termina adquiriendo un inmenso poder al introducir en su cuerpo una parte de Sukuna, a quien le llaman el Rey de las Maldiciones. Por supuesto, al ser una maldición este es un ser perverso, pero por alguna razón no puede controlar el cuerpo de Itadori a menos que este se lo permita, lo que le da capacidad de usar sus poderes en su beneficio. Bueno… Más o menos…
En fin, así es como Itadori pasa de ser un muchacho normal (aunque tiene una fuerza monstruosa, así que tan normal no era) a ser un Jujutsu-shi.
The protagonist of this anime is Itadori Yuuji, who by a series of circumstances ends up acquiring immense power by introducing into his body a part of Sukuna, who is called the King of Curses. Of course, being a curse this is a perverse being, but for some reason he can't control Itadori's body unless he allows it, which gives him the ability to use his powers to his benefit. Well... More or less...
Anyway, that's how Itadori goes from being a normal boy (although he has monstrous strength, so he wasn't so normal) to being a Jujutsu-shi.
Una vez teniendo claro de qué va la serie, puedo hacer cierto paralelismo con la canción. Porque es que le queda a la perfección, gente. De hecho, estoy convencido de que la escribieron específicamente para este anime. Ya que su contenido poético hace referencias y analogías a lo que sucede dentro del mundo de Jujutsu Kaisen.
No voy a colocar la traducción de la letra por acá por diversas razones. Traducir desde el japonés me resulta muy complicado, básicamente porque no se ni pepa de japonés jaja esperen… ¡No se vayan!
Ya, en serio. El asunto es que si buscamos en internet una traducción, nos encontraremos que existen muchas y no coinciden del todo. A veces, en casi nada. Esto se debe a que es imposible hacer una traducción literal, porque no tendría sentido. Además, E ve usa palabras y términos budistas que pueden ser interpretados de distintas maneras. Lo que es un lío. Osea, es interesante y todo, pero de verdad es un dolor de cabeza.
Si están interesados les dejo aquí este video con una traducción en español y este blog, si saben inglés, que tiene un análisis muy interesante.
Como sea, podemos extraer varias ideas de la canción. Por ejemplo:
Once having clear what the series is about, I can make some parallels with the song. Because it fits perfectly, people. In fact, I'm convinced that it was written specifically for this anime. Since its poetic content makes references and analogies to what happens within the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.
I am not going to post the translation of the lyrics here for several reasons. Translating from Japanese is very complicated for me, basically because I don't a sh... of Japanese haha wait... Don't go away!
Ok, seriously. The thing is that if we look on the internet for a translation, we will find that there are many and they don't match at all. Sometimes, almost not at all. This is because it is impossible to make a literal translation. After all, it would not make sense. In addition, E ve uses Buddhist words and terms that can be interpreted in different ways. Which is a mess. I mean, it's interesting, but it really is a headache.

Anyway, we can extract several ideas from the song. For example:
Es posible que muchos conozcan la sensación de no estar seguros de saber quienes son. No me refiero a tu nombre o qué estuviste haciendo antes de perder el conocimiento en la fiesta de anoche (ojo con la bebida jaja). Sino a no estar seguros de lo que nos gusta, lo que no, en qué somos buenos, a dónde queremos ir, qué opinión tenemos sobre tal o cual cosa. No estar seguros de saber si nuestras ideas son nuestras o de alguien más, de que si estamos haciendo lo que deseamos o lo que otros esperan de nosotros. Si hacemos lo que está bien o no.
En la canción se hace cierta analogía a esto. Tener que enfrentarnos a nosotros mismos y ver que nuestras opiniones cambian a medida que vivimos. De cómo el mundo nos exige fijar posición sobre las circunstancias que nos rodean. Y sentir que el tiempo se nos pasa en la incertidumbre.
Musicalmente, cada vez que entra en las estrofas, la voz tiene un efecto como de radio. Muy común en la música Lo-Fi. Especialmente en la segunda, cuando el acompañamiento cambia a un beat de trap. Eso lo hace más introspectivo, como una voz interna, una discusión con nuestro yo.
Any of you may be familiar with the feeling of not being sure who you are. I don't about your name or what you were doing before you passed out at the party last night (watch out for the drinking haha). I mean not being sure what we like, what we don't like, what we are good at, where we want to go, what opinion we have about this or that. Not being sure if our ideas are ours or someone else's. If we are doing what we want or what others expect from us. Whether we are doing what is right or not.
In the song, there is some analogy to this. Having to face ourselves and see that our opinions change as we live. How the world requires us to take a stand on the circumstances around us. And feeling that time is passing us by in uncertainty.
Musically, every time he enters the verses, the voice has a radio-like effect. Very common in Lo-Fi music. Especially in the second one, when the accompaniment changes to a trap beat. That makes it more introspective, like an inner voice, a discussion with ourselves.
Todos tenemos defectos. Nos hemos equivocado y debemos cargar con esas culpas. Y a veces esas fallas nos hacen sentir que no nos merecemos disfrutar de cosas buenas. O que no estamos destinados a ser grandes cosas.
Aceptar que nadie es perfecto y que nuestros errores nos dan la oportunidad de hacer correcciones, nos hace más sabios. Aceptar que todos tenemos nuestros propios demonios (afortunadamente no tan siniestros como Sukuna) y que estos no tienen porqué impedirnos mejorar o incluso ser buenas personas, nos permitirá tener vidas más placenteras e incluso ayudar a quien lo necesite.
We all have faults. We have made mistakes and we have to deal with it. And sometimes those faults make us feel that we don't deserve to enjoy good things. Or that we are not meant to be great things.
Accepting that no one is perfect and that our mistakes allow us to make corrections, makes us wiser. Accepting that we all have our own demons (fortunately not as sinister as Sukuna) and that these need not prevent us from improving or even being good people, will allow us to have more enjoyable lives and help those in need.
Antes de morir, el abuelo de Itadori le aconsejó usar su fuerza para ayudar a otros y así, cuidarse de quedarse solo en un futuro. Estas palabras resultaron ser muy importantes para nuestro protagonista, pues se había quedado solo en el mundo una vez que perdió al único familiar que le quedaba. Por eso, deseó ser más fuerte para poder proteger a todos lo que lo necesitaban por igual.
En el coro de la canción se habla sobre renacer y ser el más fuerte de todos. Además, de ser más justo, benevolente, sabio e íntegro. Cualidades de un Jujutsu-shi (o que todos deberíamos construir en nosotros).
Además, si ponemos atención, la voz del cantante suele tener los acentos un poco arítmicos. Lo que le da un ritmo sincopado al canto, como fuera de lugar.
Before he died, Itadori's grandfather advised him to use his strength to help others and thus, beware of being left alone in the future. These words turned out to be very important for our protagonist, as he had been left alone in the world once he lost the only family member he had left. Therefore, he wished to be stronger so that he could protect all those who needed him equally.
The chorus of the song talks about being reborn and being the strongest of all. Also, to be more just, benevolent, wise, and upright. Qualities of a Jujutsu-shi (or that we should all build in us).
Also, if we pay attention, the singer's voice usually has accents a bit out of rhythm. Which gives a syncopated rhythm to the singing, as if out of place.
Sé que a veces somos indiferentes con todo lo que sucede en el mundo. De vez en cuando nos da por pensar “¿Qué más da? El mundo está podrido”. En la canción se describe esa naturaleza pura e impura de las personas. Si bien, en el anime esa maldad se define como maldiciones, también se recuerda que proviene de nosotros mismos.
Entonces basta con recordar que la fuente de toda la maldad somos nosotros, así es. Pero de ¿dónde viene la bondad? Pues… De nosotros. Somos lo mejor y lo peor que le ha pasado al mundo. Tenemos el potencial de crear y destruir. Por lo que podremos concluir que somos seres de gran potencial. Si abrazamos nuestra capacidad para hacer cosas buenas, inevitablemente terminaremos desarrollando amor por el resto de la humanidad.
I know that sometimes we are indifferent to everything that happens in the world. From time to time we think, "What difference does it make? The world is rotten". The song describes the pure and impure nature of people. While, in the anime that evil is defined as curses, we are also reminded that it comes from ourselves.
So it is enough to remember that the source of all evil is us, that's right. But where does goodness come from? Well... From us. We are the best and the worst thing that has ever happened to the world. We have the potential to create and destroy. So we can conclude that we are beings of great potential. If we embrace our capacity to do good things, we will inevitably end up developing a love for the rest of humanity.
Básicamente, la canción nos habla de aceptar la realidad - que está llena de demonios y también de luz- y a nosotros mismos. De ese modo podremos vivir nuestras vidas, y abandonar el interminable bucle de la indiferencia y la incertidumbre.
Basically, the song is about accepting reality - which is full of demons as well as light - and ourselves. That way we can live our lives, and leave the endless loop of indifference and uncertainty.

I really like your analogy of the songs and show comparing it to our daily lives and how the world kind of works...I also agree that we have the choice to be the light and the darkness... And often we have a shadow side to ourselves that we often try to ignore or refuse to accept and acknowledge. Yet our shadows will always remain by our side. Balance is key. There is no light without the darkness.
