Sabor a mí
Es uno de esos boleros que todo el mundo conoce. Fue compuesto por el compositor mexicano Alvaro Carrillo el año 1959, pero fue popularizado el año 1964 por el reconocido Trío Los Panchos y la participación especial de la cantante estadounidense Eydie Gormé.
Por supuesto que sería imposible nombrar a todos los cantantes que han grabado éste bolero, pero algunos de los artistas más reconocidos que interpretaron Sabor a mi son Javier Solís, José José, Lucho Gatica, Luis Miguel, José Feliciano, Los Ángeles Negros, Alberto Beltrán con La Sonora Matancera, Rocío Dúrcal, Dyango, Julio Iglesias, Vicente Fernández.
Éste bolero tiene una historia muy simpática y es Mario Carrillo, hijo del compositor oaxaqueño, quien comparte la historia del famoso bolero:
“Fue en diciembre de ese año, 1957, cuando en la cena de Navidad, ya estando comprometidos, mi padre tomaba whisky y entre trago y trago le depositaba un beso a mi mamá. Mi madre, como casi toda mujer, le empezó a reclamar que estaba tomando mucho, sugiriendo que dejara de hacerlo. Pero mi padre hacía “mutis” para servirse otro whisky y así, sorbo tras sorbo y beso tras beso, los reclamos se hicieron rutina. En una de esas, cuenta mi tía, que mi mamá le dijo a Álvaro Carrillo que de tanto beso ya la estaba emborrachando, que ella sin tomar nada ya tenía en la boca el sabor a whisky. Mi padre, tras una breve pausa, reviró y le dijo: “lo que tienes en la boca no es sabor a whisky es… sabor a mí”. Ambos, cómplices de la poesía, entendieron en ese momento que la frase suscitada de ese reclamo era una sentencia poética que debería convertirse en canción. Mi madre la anotó como tarea para mi padre y, rompiendo su sobriedad, tomó un trago del vaso de mi papá y brindaron por el que sería, probablemente, el éxito más grande que Álvaro Carrillo haya compuesto”.
Taste of me

Of course it would be impossible to name all the singers who have recorded this bolero, but some of the most recognized artists who performed Taste of me are Javier Solís, José José, Lucho Gatica, Luis Miguel, José Feliciano, Los Ángeles Negros, Alberto Beltrán with La Sonora Matancera, Rocío Dúrcal, Dyango, Julio Iglesias, Vicente Fernández.
This bolero has a very nice story and it is Mario Carrillo, son of the Oaxacan composer, who shares the story of the famous bolero:
"It was in December of that year, 1957, when at Christmas dinner, when we were already engaged, my father was drinking whiskey and between drinks he kissed my mother. My mother, like almost every woman, began to complain that he was drinking too much, suggesting that he should stop. But my father would "mutis" to pour himself another whiskey and so, sip after sip and kiss after kiss, the complaints became routine. At one point, my aunt tells me, my mother told Álvaro Carrillo that he was getting her drunk from all that kissing, that she had already tasted whiskey in her mouth without drinking anything. My father, after a brief pause, replied and told her: "what you have in your mouth is not the taste of whiskey, it's... the taste of me". Both of them, accomplices of poetry, understood at that moment that the phrase that arose from that claim was a poetic sentence that should become a song. My mother wrote it down as homework for my father and, breaking her sobriety, she took a drink from my father's glass and they toasted to what would probably be the biggest hit Alvaro Carrillo has ever composed".
