Siempre soy una persona que se la pasa escuchando música día y noche, cada vez que tengo la oportunidad de hacerlo pueden estar seguro que lo voy a hacer y es en esa búsqueda infinita de música donde voy redescubriendo cosas que alguna vez había escuchado y otras que resultan ser grandes joyas. Ciertamente los Tiny Desk no salieron ayer ni hace dos años, de hecho creo que tienen más 12 años mostrando la música de la manera en lo que lo hacen.

I am always a person who spends my time listening to music day and night, every time I have the opportunity to do it you can be sure that I will do it and it is in that infinite search for music where I rediscover things that I had once heard and others that turn out to be great gems. Certainly the Tiny Desk didn't come out yesterday or two years ago, in fact I think they have more than 12 years showing music the way they do.

Para aquellos que no sepan de lo que les estoy hablando les comento rápidamente que es este fenómeno conocido en el internet como los Tiny Desk. Resulta que por allá en el año 2008 uno de los productores de la NPR (una emisora publica de los Estados Unidos) al salir de un concierto lo hicieron extremadamente disgustados porque no pudieron apreciar bien la música debido a la gran cantidad de ruido producido por la gente por lo que a manera de juego dijeron que aquella artista debería de tocar sola en una sala. Y fue a raíz de aquel comentario cuando finalmente meses después se graba el primer Tiny Desk.

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, I'll quickly tell you about this phenomenon known on the internet as the Tiny Desk. It turns out that back in 2008 one of the producers of the NPR (a public radio station in the United States) when leaving a concert they were extremely upset because they could not appreciate the music well due to the large amount of noise produced by the people so as a game they said that the artist should play alone in a room. And it was as a result of that comment when finally months later the first Tiny Desk was recorded.

Han sido MUCHOS pero MUCHOS los artistas que han pasado por ese formato pero el día de hoy solo les voy a mostrar los que para mi son los mejores en lengua hispana. Sin más, acá está mi selección...

There have been MANY, MANY artists that have gone through this format but today I am only going to show you the ones that for me are the best in the Spanish language. Without further ado, here is my selection...

- Carlos Vives.

La música latina es sinónimo de alegría y la alegría es igual a Carlos Vives. Probablemente uno de los artistas más influyentes que hay hizo este mini concierto donde se pone en evidencia que no se necesita tener una gran instrumentación para montar una verdadera fiesta. Con Carlos pasa algo y es que la marca de él es el acordeón y la gaita colombiana, puede que no conozcas una canción pero si escuchas el sonido característico de esos instrumentos estoy seguro que sabrás que es él y eso mis amigos es lo que hace que los artistas sean grandes, que no necesitemos escucharlos para reconocerlos. En fin, poco más de 20 minutos llenos de ritmo y buena música.

Probablemente de los MEJORES Tiny Desk que he escuchado; también es probable que no conozcan a Nicole pero no importa porque hoy se las presento. Ella es una cantante y compositora argentina que en el mundo artístico es relativamente nueva, tendrá como 2 años, pero eso no quita lo talentosa que es. Escogí este concierto por la cantidad de arreglos musicales que hay en él, si escuchan las canciones originales sabrán de lo que hablo, pero es que la verdad la manera en que está producido, la forma de cantar y la calidad de sus músicos es única. Al igual que con Carlos Vives acá vemos y escuchamos algo particular y es el "Bandoneón", un instrumento muy común en el tango pero que acá es un complemento increíble. Por favor escuchen a esta chica que vale la pena.

Probably one of the BEST Tiny Desk I've ever heard; it's also likely that you don't know Nicole but it doesn't matter because today I'm introducing her to you. She is an Argentinian singer and songwriter who is relatively new in the artistic world, she will be about 2 years old, but that doesn't take away how talented she is. I chose this concert because of the amount of musical arrangements in it, if you listen to the original songs you will know what I'm talking about, but the truth is that the way it is produced, the way she sings and the quality of her musicians is unique. As with Carlos Vives, here we see and hear something particular and that is the "Bandoneón", a very common instrument in tango but here it is an incredible complement. Please listen to this girl, she is worth it.

Top 3 de los mejores Tiny Desk que han hecho en sus más de 10 años y miren que han pasado artistas de nombre pero es que la realización y la vibra que tiene TODO este mini concierto es brutal, no se si es que soy muy fanático de C Tangana pero la verdad es que así lo creo. El coro de mujeres, la música andaluza y la presencia de los Carmona con Kike Veneno hacen que esto sea una joya musical; y si a esto le unimos el hit "Tu me dejaste de querer" que es una unión de bachata, música sevillana y electrónica creo que es la guinda del pastel. Más versatilidad y fusión es difícil encontrar hoy en día.

Top 3 of the best Tiny Desk that they have done in more than 10 years and look that they have passed name artists but is that the realization and the vibe that has ALL this mini concert is brutal, I do not know if I'm a big fan of C Tangana but the truth is that I think so. The women's choir, the Andalusian music and the presence of Carmona and Kike Veneno make this a musical gem; and if we add to this the hit "Tu me dejaste de querer" which is a union of bachata, Sevillian music and electronic music I think it's the icing on the cake. Con Ozuna pasa lo que sucede con la mayoría de la música urbana en general, que no es otra cosa que la estigmatización de la misma. Que quiero decir con esto? - pues que por ser reggaetón por ejemplo, automáticamente lo descartan y piensan que es de calidad inexistente y no hay error más grande que ese y prueba de ello es este Tiny Desk. Cuando lo escuché la primera vez me sorprendió bastante por la calidad que hay pero sobretodo por el acompañamiento de esa segunda voz que hace que todo el concierto se oiga en un nivel más arriba. Es sutil, calmado y agradable al oído, si no les gusta el genero lo entiendo pero dense la oportunidad de ver el video, vale la pena el tiempo.

What happens with Ozuna is what happens with most urban music in general, which is nothing more than the stigmatization of it. It's subtle, calm and pleasant to the ear, if you don't like the genre I understand but give yourself the opportunity to watch the video, it's worth the time.

- Los Hacheros.

El tesoro escondido entre tantos Tiny Desk sin duda es este. Estamos ante el típico grupo cubano de son y salsa que levanta a todo el mundo de las sillas y es que la calidad que a simple vista se puede notar es innegable. De las cosas que más me gustó fue la versatilidad que hay entre sus integrantes, es decir, el trombonista también es el violinista, el del Güiro es el mismo de la flauta que también es segunda voz, todos tienen más de un talento y eso nos habla de que estamos frente a verdaderos músicos. La salsa y el son siempre serán subestimadas, no se muy el motivo, pero les traigo de los mejores grupos que he visto en este formato.

The hidden treasure among so many Tiny Desk is undoubtedly this one. El uruguayo es, para mi, de los mejores artistas, cantantes y compositores de habla hispana desde hace ya un buen tiempo. La musicalidad, las letras, la forma en que transmite esas letras, los ritmos, todo lo que van a haber en este Tiny Desk es oro puro. El tema con Drexler es que hace como una mezcla entre la música y la poesía/filosofía que de cierta manera hipnotiza a cualquiera porque te está contando una historia con un sonido muy bien hecho y muy único. La música necesita más Drexler porque artistas como él ya no quedan muchos.

The Uruguayan is, for me, one of the best artists, singers and songwriters in the Spanish-speaking world for quite some time now. The musicality, the lyrics, the way he transmits those lyrics, the rhythms, everything that is going to be in this Tiny Desk is pure gold. The thing about Drexler is that he makes like a mix between music and poetry/philosophy that in a way hypnotizes anyone because he is telling you a story with a very well done and very unique sound. Music needs more Drexler because there are not many artists like him left.

Quedaron muchos más conciertos pero en mi humilde opinión estos son los que más me llamaron la atención por su calidad en la ejecución, por sus sonidos y porque en algún momento me sorprendieron mucho con cosas que no esperaba. Pronto regreso con los mejores Tiny Desk anglosajones.

There were many more concerts left but in my humble opinion these are the ones that caught my attention the most for their quality of performance, for their sounds and because at some point they surprised me a lot with things I did not expect. Soon I will be back with the best Anglo-Saxon Tiny Desk.
