I know absolutely nothing about this world, but I know you're well-educated, so I have a question for you. I thought my oldest daughter might want to explore making beats, and for now she's got BandLab on her iPad, but I must admit, the app is even a bit intimidating for me.
Are there any (free) iOS apps you recommend for a beginner to make beats or a rhythm track with?
there are totally great(free) apps for making music on apple and droid!
i have an older ipad4 so I'm dusting it off to see what i got on it for you, ill look for easier ones to use. there are many new apps i can't download, so it never hurts just to download something and see if you are gel-ing with the app, just like a game
Here is one called easy beats that is quite simple and seems fairly loaded with features. . You can play (and record/sequence) from the drum pads or by plugging in individual sounds in a grid pattern, a great way to visualize what is going on/learn . you could actually look up beat patterns online (or in a book) that would tell you basic grid patterns by genre...like a disco beat/jazz/salsa whatever... just another way to teach yourself, but it's fun to just mess around and learn by trial and error too!
here's another cool one called beat machine, which seems fairly simple yet versatile
there is a cool one called upi sketch where you click on the pen and draw the notes and/pitch /time in after clicking on instruments

then press play. .. it's very different but i think it has much potential for creativity and is fun with animal sounds and instruments
i have a sampler app called noiseee that's pretty cool, i imagine a kid of any age would have fun recording voices or sounds and being able to trigger them with a button push
i would also check out some basic synthesizer / keyboard apps ! find the one that is right for you/ your daughter. some keywords i would recommend are drum machine/sequencer/synthesizer. there are some cool and easy sequencer programs that are a good visual way to play (like step synth) searching those words should keep her busy for a while...i hope to see her having fun, learning, and maybe even posting some creations!
That is a wealth of information, huge thanks. This will be more than enough to send us down the right track, and I realize I'll have to learn a bit too so that she can teach herself. 🙏👍
