Good morning, friends of the @music-community . It is an honor for me to greet you, as I hardly consider myself a music maker (although that has changed over the years, I now play two instruments!!) But what brings me here today is the story of Zarabanda Arrabalera recording in the studio. To keep in mind within Hive, the account is not yet in use, but you can find it as @lareadelsur, and we are always working towards carnival, so when I share something that includes it, I delegate part of the profits to it. Let's start with a quick summary to put us in context.

Buen día, amigos de @music-community . Es un honor para mi saludarles, ya que difícilmente me considero una persona hacedora de música (aunque ha cambiado con los años, ya toco dos instrumentos!!) Pero lo que aquí me trae hoy es la historia de Zarabanda Arrabalera grabando en estudio. Para tener en cuenta dentro de Hive, la cuenta aún no es utilizada pero la encuentran como @lareadelsur y seguimos trabajando siempre para carnaval, entonces cuando yo comparto algo que la incluye, le delego parte de las ganancias. Vamos a comenzar por un poco de resumen veloz que nos ponga en contexto.
Zarabanda is a Murga Porteña that has as many artistic veins as there are members, ideas, and ants in the plaza. And in this story I bring you today, the possibility arose to record two songs in a studio. There are many different people on stage. Voices, reciters, choirs, sign language interpreters, drums, guitar, bass, and maybe I'm forgetting someone. All of them are members of the family that forms and unites under the mantle of Zarabanda Arrabalera, which, it should be noted, is a Murga Porteña Tanguera from the south of the capital.

Zarabanda es una Murga Porteña que tiene tantas vetas artísticas como integrantes, ideas, y hormigas puedan haber en la plaza. Y en esta historia que hoy les traigo, surgió la posibilidad de grabar dos canciones en un estudio. Las personas integrantes del escenario son varias, variadas, muchas. Voces, recitadores, coros, intérprete de señas, bombos, guitarra, bajo y quizás me olvido de alguien. Todos ellos ciudadanos integrantes de la familia que forma y une debajo del manto Zarabanda Arrabalera, que además, cabe destacar, es una Murga Porteña Tanguera del sur de Capital.
The date arrived, the time arrived, we were all there (me with my camera). I was invited to capture this beautiful afternoon, which lasted about eight hours, a full day of recording. And although I had been in places like this before, with cables, soundproof rooms, careful not to make any noise, and tests, stopwatches, rhythms, etc.... I had never found such a friendly and beautiful coexistence in another group. In perfect balance, everyone knows what to do, when it's their turn, when to help, and when to leave so as not to interfere.

Llegó la fecha, llegó la hora, allí estábamos todos (yo con la cámara) fui invitada a retratar esta bella tarde, fueron cerca de 8 horas, una digna jornada completa de grabación. Y aunque ya había estado en lugares de este estilo, con cables, habitaciones insonorizadas, cuidado de no hacer ruido, y pruebas, cronómetros, ritmos, etc…. Nunca encontré en otro grupo una coexistencia tan amable y hermosa. En un equilibrio perfecto, todos saben lo que deben hacer, cuándo es su turno, cuando ayudan y cuando salir para no interferir.
Among themselves, you can see them giving instructions such as “this cable goes there” and others such as “is this my microphone? Turn up the return.” Lots of laughter, lots of mate, it wasn't winter but it was cold at times, and we all took turns making mate. There was even a break with pastries. Well, getting back to the music, I'll tell you some details.

Entre todos se ve que se dan indicaciones “este cable para allá” y otras como “este es mi micrófono? subí el retorno” Muchas risas, mucho mate, no era invierno pero hacía frío de a momentos, y entre todos íbamos turnandonos para hacer mates, incluso hubo una pausa con facturas, bueno, volviendo a lo musical, les contaré algunos detalles.

Two songs from the 2025 repertoire were recorded, meaning they are songs that were current in February 2025, and only one will be repeated at Carnival 2026, but it is an incredible plan and a feasible project to be able to leave behind high-quality recordings, and not just “on air” as one can record with a camera or cell phone.

Se grabaron dos canciones del repertorio 2025, o sea que son canciones que en febrero 2025 estuvieron vigentes, y sólo una repetiremos en Carnaval 2026, pero es un plan increíble y un proyecto posible de llevar a cabo, poder dejar registradas grabaciones de buena calidad, y no solo “al aire” como puede grabar uno con una cámara o móvil.
In addition, we were invited to the recording studio of the Municipal Art Center in Avellaneda, called Juan Domingo Perón. The municipality of Avellaneda is very much in touch with its artists, musicians, and cultural scene, so going there is always delightful, but this time we were welcomed by an incredible studio, where we had an amazing afternoon. Of course, this type of service usually comes at a high cost, or at least a “friendly” cost, meaning they'll charge you the minimum. Well, that wasn't the case for us. This recording studio is free, although you have to sign up and wait on the waiting list…

Además, nos vimos invitados al estudio de grabación del Centro Municipal de Arte en Avellaneda, llamado Juan Domingo Perón. El municipio de Avellaneda está muy en contacto con sus artistas, músicos y movida cultural, por lo que ir allí siempre es encantador, pero esta vez nos recibió un estudio increíble, para vivir una tarde increíble. Claro que este tipo de servicios suele tener un costo elevado, o por lo menos un costo “amigo” para decir que te cobrarán lo mínimo, bueno, no fue nuestro caso, este estudio de grabación es gratuito, aunque hay que anotarse y aguardar en la lista de espera…
The afternoon continues: the arrangements, the jokes, the high notes, the repetitions, or even the takes that came out perfect on the first try, all formed part of this family gathering, among friends, building music and building bonds. The carnival we experienced brought us closer together. I think every carnival achieves this in the group, as does every trip and every conversation. Every week, bonds are strengthened, help is given, we build together, and there we were, making a little history for Zarabanda.

Sigue la tarde: los arreglos, los chistes, los agudos, las repeticiones, o incluso las tomas que salieron perfectas al primer intento, todo formó parte de esta reunión de familia, entre amigos, construyendo música y construyendo lazos. El carnaval vivido nos unió más, creo que cada carnaval logra esto en el grupo, como cada viaje y cada charla. Cada semana se refuerzan lazos, se cuenta con ayuda, se construye entre todos, y ahí estábamos nosotros, haciendo un poco de historia para Zarabanda.
I would like to tell you that I have a beautiful video to share with you, but as the songs have not yet been released, I don't have an edited and finished version, so it will have to wait until I have the right audio track. In the meantime, I think the photos capture the day very well. The drums were recorded over the guitar tracks, then the vocals were added to frame everything, and then all the details of the choruses, recitations, etc. As I said above, I had experienced things like this before, but with a traditionally trained band. Seeing a murga record in the studio was something surprising. Above all, I would like to highlight what an incredible team they are and the wonderful people who welcomed us.

Me gustaría contarles que tengo un video hermoso que compartirles, pero como aún no fueron lanzadas las canciones, no cuento con una versión editada y terminada, así que quedará pendiente para cuando tenga la pista de audio adecuada, mientras tanto creo que las fotos retratan muy bien la jornada. Los bombos grabaron sobre las pistas de la guitarra, luego hubieron voces para enmarcar todo, y después todos los detalles de coros, recitados, etc. Como ya dije más arriba, había vivido cosas así, pero con una banda con formación tradicional, ver a una murga grabar en estudio fue algo sorprendente, destaco por sobre todo, el equipo increíble que son y la gente hermosa que nos recibió.
