Bård Faust and the murder of Magne Andreassen. - Bård Faust e o assassinato de Magne Andreassen.

Today we will talk about another big story that occurred during the second wave of Black Metal in Norway. This time, the central figure in the story is the former drummer of the band Emperor, Faust, or Bård Faust, pseudonyms of Bård G. Eithun.
Faust was Emperor's drummer during the early 90's and participated as a member of the band in the albums “As The Shadows Rise” and “In The Nightside Eclipse”. As we know, a large part (I believe most) of the musicians who were part of the second wave of Norwegian Black Metal attended the same places and participated in the same circles of friends, there was a lot of interaction between them at that time. Faust was no exception, the documentary “Until The Light Takes Us” tells that he even worked at Helvete, a store that belonged to the Mayhem guitarist Euronymous.

Now, let's talk about what matters: the murder.
In August 1992, Faust was in Lillehammer, Norway, he had traveled there to visit his family. The way Faust himself recounted what happened on the day of the murder, August 21, was as follows:
He had been out for a walk at night and was walking through the Olympic Park when Magne Andreassen approached him. Faust claims that Andreassen was clearly drunk and gay, because she showed that she wanted to have some contact with him, Faust did not share this desire.
Andreassen invited him to walk together to the top of the forest and Faust agreed, at that moment, he was already determined that he was going to murder Andreassen. Faust says he can't explain why he simply decided to kill someone, because, according to him, he didn't normally have that kind of thinking. Faust carried a knife with him whenever he traveled, he says, so he could protect himself in a dangerous situation. It was the weapon he used to stab Andreassen 37 times, then he kicked him several times in the head until he fell to the ground.

I leave here the story told in the words of Faust himself:
"This man approached me - he was obviously drunk and he was obviously gay [...] and it was clear he wanted to have some contact. He asked me if I could [...] go up into the forest. So I agreed, because I was determined that I wanted to kill him, which was pretty weird... because [usually] I'm not like that."

Faust claimed that he felt no remorse for what he did at the time, and said:
"I was out there, just waiting to make an assault. It's not easy to describe why this happened. It was supposed to happen, and if it was this guy or someone else, it wouldn't change the outcome much."

Isahn, lead singer of Emperor, said the following about what happened:
"Faust had a fascination with serial killers for a long time, and I think he wanted to know what it was like to kill a person with his bare hands."

The media linked Andreassen's murder with Black Metal, Fascism and Satanism, but Faust explained in an interview given in 2008 the following:
"I've never been a Satanist or a Fascist, but I've harbored hate and negativity. Those feelings that just consume your insides."

Confession and imprisonment:
At first, the police had no suspects, but he came to tell friends, such as Euronymous and Varg Vikernes, what he had done. The day after murdering Andreassen, Faust returned to Oslo, where he burned the chapel at Holmenkollen along with Vikernes and Euronymous.
Faust was arrested in 1993, after the murder of Euronymous by Vikernes, he confessed to murdering Andreassen and was sentenced a year later to 14 years in prison. He was released after spending 9 years in prison in 2003.
After his release, Faust was well received by his former bandmates and played with Emperor again, but did not become a permanent member of the band. He played in bands like Scum, Blood Tsunami and Aborym and remains free today.

Hoje falaremos de mais uma grande história ocorrida durante a segunda onda do Black Metal na Noruega. Dessa vez, a figura central da história é o ex-baterista da banda Emperor, Faust, ou Bård Faust, pseudônimos de Bård G. Eithun.
Faust foi o baterista do Emperor durante os primeiros anos da década de 90 e participou como integrante da banda nos álbuns “As The Shadows Rise” e “In The Nightside Eclipse”. Agora, vamos falar sobre o que interessa: o assassinato.
Em agosto de 1992, Faust estava em Lillehammer, na Noruega, ele havia viajado até lá para visitar sua família. A forma como o próprio Faust contou o que houve no dia do assassinato, 21 de agosto, foi a seguinte:
Ele havia saído para caminhar durante a noite e andava pelo Parque Olímpico, quando Magne Andreassen se aproximou. Faust afirma que Andreassen estava claramente bêbado e era gay, porque demonstrava que queria ter algum contato com ele, Faust não compartilhava desse desejo.
Andreassen o convidou para que caminhassem juntos ao alto da floresta e Faust concordou, nesse momento, ele já estava decidido de que iria assassinar Andreassen. Faust afirma que não sabe explicar o motivo de ter simplesmente decidido que mataria alguém, porque, de acordo com ele, normalmente não tinha esse tipo de pensamento. Faust carregava consigo uma faca sempre que viajava, diz ele, para poder se proteger em uma situação de perigo. Foi a arma que ele usou para esfaquear Andreassen 37 vezes, depois o chutou várias vezes na cabeça até que ele caísse no chão.

Deixo aqui, a história contada nas palavras do próprio Faust:
"Esse homem se aproximou de mim - ele estava obviamente bêbado e era obviamente gay [...] e estava claro que ele queria ter algum contato. Ele me perguntou se eu poderia [...] subir a floresta. Então eu concordei, porque eu estava decidido que queria matá-lo, o que era bem esquisito... porque [normalmente] eu não sou assim."

Faust alegou que não sentiu remorso pelo que fez na época, e disse:
"Eu estava lá fora, apenas esperando para fazer uma agressão. Não é fácil descrever porque isso aconteceu. Aquilo era para acontecer, e se fosse esse cara ou outro qualquer, não mudaria muito o resultado."

Isahn, vocalista do Emperor, disse o seguinte sobre o ocorrido:
"Faust tinha uma fascinação por serial killers há muito tempo, e eu acho que ele queria saber como era matar uma pessoa com as próprias mãos."

A mídia relacionou o assassinato de Andreassen com o Black Metal, o Fascismo e o Satanismo, mas Faust explicou em uma entrevista dada em 2008 o seguinte:
"Eu nunca fui um satanista ou fascista, mas eu coloquei em mim o ódio e a negatividade. Aqueles sentimentos que simplesmente consomem seu interior."

Confissão e prisão:
No início, a polícia não tinha nenhum suspeito, mas ele chegou a contar para amigos, como Euronymous e Varg Vikernes, o que havia feito. Um dia depois de assassinar Andreassen, Faust voltou para Oslo, onde queimou a capela de Holmenkollen junto com Vikernes e Euronymous.
Faust foi preso em 1993, após o assassinato de Euronymous por Vikernes, ele confessou ter assassinado Andreassen e foi condenado, um ano depois, a 14 anos na prisão. Ele foi solto depois de passar 9 anos preso, em 2003.
Depois de ser solto, Faust foi bem recebido por seus antigos companheiros e chegou a tocar novamente com o Emperor, mas não se tornou um membro permanente da banda. Ele tocou em bandas como Scum, Blood Tsunami e Aborym e continua livre atualmente.
