The Last Domino es el nombre de una serie de conciertos que el grupo Génesis ha iniciado en Birmingham, en un ambiente emotivo por la preocupación en torno a la deteriorada salud de Phil Collins, el cual desde el año 2009 presenta problemas motores y diversas operaciones en su espalda por lo que le es imposible tocar la batería e incluso no puede encontrarse de pie por largo tiempo.
En los años 70, Phil Collins era hiperactivo con la batería y con un estilo vocal complementario al de Peter Gabriel que proporcionaba las armonías en los shows en vivo.
La etapa de Collins con Génesis merece una publicación aparte, ya que en esta oportunidad me enfocare en algunos trabajos que realizo como excelente músico de sesión y como productor, y no como la super estrella pop que se critica y no se le da el valor que se merece, tampoco me enfocare en su triste vida amorosa ya que no es mi intención juzgarle como persona.
A continuación, con el riesgo de dejar alguna participación por fuera, les comento acerca de sus trabajos e influencia fuera del grupo Génesis:
- En 1974 Brian Eno participa en The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway y el grupo Genesis como forma de pago envía a Phil Collins a tocar la batería en el tema Mother Whale Eyeless del segundo álbum como solista de Brian Eno Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy). En el año 1975 es llamado para participar en el tercer disco de Eno: Another Green World, en las canciones Sky Saw , Over Fire Island y Zawinul / Lava. Algunos críticos colocan este álbum en las listas de los mejores de todos los tiempos.

- Before And After Science de 1977 es el quinto disco como solista de Brian Eno, y allí Collins toca la batería en las canciones: No One Receiving y Energy Fools the Magician.

- Ese mismo año es baterista y soporte vocal en el álbum Grace and Danger de John Martyn , (personaje de la música a reivindicar ya). Ambos se convirtieron en grandes amigos e incluso este le presenta a Eric Clapton. - Robert Plant dice que Phil Collins fue clave para solidificar su carrera como solista después de Led Zeppelin, ya que este le brindó un apoyo incondicional e incluso realizó una gira como miembro de su banda durante un mes. Según cuenta le dijo: ‘John Bonham fue probablemente la influencia más importante en mi vida. Me sentaré en ese taburete para tí”. Collins toca en el debut en solitario de Plant, Pictures At Eleven en 1982 y en el álbum que le sigue en 1983, The Principle of Moments .

- En 1982 produce Something Going On. el tercer álbum en solitario de Anni-Frid Lyngstad (Frida del grupo ABBA), siendo este un relativo éxito en Suecia, Australia y en menor grado en Estados Unidos. Alli también ejerce funciones de baterista, compositor y cantante, ejecutando un dueto en la canción Here Will Stay. Este álbum fue uno de los pioneros en lo que respecta a grabación y mezcla digital.

- En el año 1984 fue uno de los productores del noveno álbum de estudio de Eric Claptom. Behind The Sun en donde también toca sintetizador, batería, coros, Fender Rhodes y batería eléctrica. Repite con Clapton en el año 1990 en el álbum Journeyman donde toca la batería y realiza coros en la canción Bad Love, la cual fue galardonada en 1990 con el premio Grammy como la mejor interpretación de rock masculina.

En 1996 forma The Phil Collins Big Band, siendo el su baterista, la banda realizó versiones en clave de jazz- Big Band de canciones de Génesis y Collins, actuando en el Festival de Jazz de Montreux, y editando en 1999 el CD A Hot Night in Paris.

Robert Fripp, compositor, músico y productor británico es el líder indiscutible de King Crimsom, banda pionera del Rock Progresivo, es considerado uno de los guitarristas mas influyentes en el género dado su nivel de creatividad y virtuosismo técnico.
John Cale es un multiintrumentista, productor fundador de The Velvet Underground y ha experimentado con géneros musicales tales como rock, música clásica y musica electrónica, produjo el disco Horses de Patti Smith y el primer álbum de The Stooges.

Todos estos impresionantes y extraordinarios músicos y bandas contaron con el apoyo de Phil Collins en sus grabaciones dado su calidad como músico de sesión y como productor musical, no dudaron ni un momento de su capacidad, demostrando la versatilidad del artista en varios géneros y no solo en el Rock Progresivo. Además Collins contribuyo con su batería a forjar el sonido de la música popular en los años 80.
Aun en estas fechas en el año 2021 este artista demuestra valentía y coraje al presentarse con el grupo Génesis dado su estado de salud.
Muchos fanáticos conservadores del grupo Génesis satanizan a Collins por el hecho de haber volcado al grupo del genero de rock progresivo al pop más comercial, como si de eso no tuviesen también culpa Tony Banks, (su tecladista) y Mike Rutherford, (Bajista. Guitarrista), ambos han tenido sus coqueteos con la música pop sobre todo Rutherford y su grupo Mike & The Mechanics.

Good afternoon, this is my first publication in the community, my name is Nelson Barrios and although I am not a musician by profession I feel attracted to Rock and Pop music since I was a child, (without belittling the folk music of my country Venezuela), feeling that this has accompanied me in specific moments of my life and has allowed me in a way to make catharsis. I hope that my publications are to the liking of this interesting community.
The Last Domino is the name of a series of concerts that the group Genesis has started in Birmingham, in an emotional atmosphere due to the concern about the deteriorating health of Phil Collins, who since 2009 has motor problems and several operations on his back so it is impossible for him to play the drums and even can not stand for a long time.
