Thought I'd start (and who knows, maybe continue) a new thing called "Flashback Friday" where each Friday, I share with you one of my tracks that you may have missed or it seemed relevant for how I'm feeling at this moment in time. Today, I've chosen my track "Always Looking Over You", which is a progressively building "cinematic" drum & bass track, dedicated to my Nan.
Always Looking Over You
I started this one back in 2011 after Nana passed away and although she was suffering with a few medical conditions, the one that affected her behaviour and personality the most was vascular dementia, a form of Alzheimer’s.
Between the time of her passing and funeral, Mum told me of a couple of events that happened which were certainly supernatural. After speaking to a few other close friends, it seems these events happen more often than not at a similar time. I like to think that the loved one is still there with us in spirit, letting us know everything is OK, always looking over us 🙂
I released this track as part of the Travel Diaries EP as when I was travelling through Australia and New Zealand on my own in 2019, I felt that Nana was there and @gabrielatravels captured the mood beautifully in the artwork she designed above.
Progressive "Cinematic" Drum & Bass
I wanted to tell a story with this one and have it build all the way to a crescendo of happy, fantasial, liquid drum & bass vibes at the end. It's likely not to be mixed in to any DJ sets as it doesn't lend itself to being mix friendly but I'm fine with that as it's its own unique tale with it's own place!
The track was released on Electronic Alliance Records, the community run label of the Electronic Music Alliance, on 31st January 2020 and is available on all music streaming outlets. Add it to your Spotify playlist here and download from my website here.
I'm hiking/running 2,020 km (~1,255 miles) in 2020 to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society and research in to this disease. A big thanks to every one check out the latest announcement post here to find out more about how that's going - it's a stat fest!
Hope you enjoy the music
