I'd love to brighten up your day with selection of four songs spiced with a powerful latino touch. These names realy kick ass: Chicha Libre, Calexico, Vicente Fernandez.
Chicha Libre - Popcorn Andino
The song is from debut album of (actually, to my surprise!) American band Chicha Libre. (The video clip did not impress me at all, it would be better to listen to the tune without video at all rather than watching it... but maybe it will click differently with you). You know the song itself, dont you? Yes, its another cover of a timeless tune from 70-es. Isnt it too much? Nope! One day I maybe even make a special #ttt post about this song.
So... part of the band's name is a reference to chicha -- a corn-based liquor that has been produced in South America since the time of the Incas. Also it is the name of a musical genre popular in late 1960s in northern Peru ('Peruvian cumbia' is its other name) - a fusion of rock and roll and cumbia produced by the native population of the Peruvian Andes and Amazon, as wiki puts it. So, it is 'popcorn' with a scent of cumbaya. Ingredients were good, and it turned out not bad at all! (I just feel a bit sad about the low budget for video clip...)
Calexico - Crystal Frontier
Calexico's unique irresistible sound captured my heart quite early on, twenty-four years ago - about the time it was released. The band's location is Tucson, Arizona. It is primarily a duet of two artists backed up with various session musicians... thus theeeeir music varies from one recording to another. Personally, I am a big fan of their first albums they produced in 1998-2001. The best part of the road, to me. Was introduced to Calexico by a pal from Radiohead club, referred as 'a cool american indie pop band' - in brief, this is a very accurate and complete diagnosis!
Vicente Fernandez - Guadalajara
This track came to me from quite a different source! I stumbled upon this highly inflammable track digging thru a selection of assorted music recommended by Tom Waits. Nothing more should be said here. Well, except of that Vicente Fernandez is Grand Master, one of Mexican marjachi veterans.
Juanes - La Camisa Negra
A big latino hit that has been covered many times - I love the actual song but this version is pretty straightforward, I included it into my #ttt compilation for the music video. All of a sudden, it suggests a funny idea (spiced with a little touch of irony, parody - depends on you what you'll smell in whats going on in the video) and cool direction/implementation. I liked it, and simply share with you. Have fun!
I hope you enjoyed today's music selection, and travelling around the globe without leaving the Hive. 😎 The post goes for Three Tune Tuesday challenge run by @ablaze. Camisa Negra for the win, that's a great song! One of my favorites by Juanes. He used to play heavy metal back in Colombia before switching up his sound!
Calexico is awesome too, great pick!
